Election trigger registered organisation bill passes Senate
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national...0565fd7af0

Massively important  this - it was one of the triggers for the double dissolution.

Largely unreported by the ABC - so far.

As for the wall - it's big!! About 1500km wide!

Something like this you reckon ?

"Susan Kiefel has been named as Australia's first female High Court chief justice – ending 113 years of men leading the nation's highest court."

Well done conservatives!

Moving forward...
Interesting isn't it, JWH appointed her to the High Court.

Mate when I first saw the photo I thought it was Ms Gillard!!!!!

LOL Same here!

I reckon they should do the prince & pauper thing and swap roles for a day Tongue
That's a fine story about Susan Kiefels career voyage!!!"1

The art of compromise and the art of understanding what is possible given your circumstances appears to have made a bit of a come back in political circles.

This is good for the country it implies moderation and progress.

It will be put to the ultimate test if they start talking about carbon pricing (colloquially termed "emissions intensity scheme") as reported today Smile

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-12-05/th...ed/8092506

Can't wait for this one to play out.
Hi Peter. Have your power bills actually gone up?

I remember how my power prices would go up because of the carbon tax but in my case they stayed the same.

Also remember being told I would save $550 a year when the tax was axed. That didn't happen either but I'm in NSW.

Ok so... doomsday specialists are predicting doom only now because it's closing.

But they should've been predicting doom when the plant was privatised by the Liberal Govt 20 years ago.

Unless Victorians were prepared to pay more for their power the station would close because its owners declared it non viable.

That's what happens when Govts privatise assets and it's why I don't usually support it Smile

In this case, Andrews didn't shut down Hazelwood, Kennett did... by proxy.

Quote:Hi Power.

Weird argument. It is encumbent on the government to ensure the state has sufficient energy.
I don't disagree with that. But Andrews didn't shut the power station down. The owners did.

Quote:Even weirder is that our Danny is the most hated premier Vic has ever had.
But he would be re elected if there were to be an election.
"Most hated" you say!
Yeah the ordinary people's paper is full of it. I could fill 100 posts with it, and not a link in sight!
So you're saying he is the most hated popular premier. LOL that's funny. Maybe just the newspapers hate him Smile

Quote:I see the lowest paid unionist (cleaners etc.) are still being ripped of by their leaders! Yikes!
Are they arrogant or just plain stupid?
Don't know anything about this. Bad employers pay bad wages. Unions oppose that, that's their job.

I do know the govt changed their mind and are now allowing Xmas day to be a fully paid public holiday. Credit to them for that.
"I don't disagree with that. But Andrews didn't shut the power station down. The owners did."

So if I have a car and the government tax fuel to an extent that I can't afford - and I park up the car - that's nothing to do with the government?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm maybe?

As for it not being the fault of Union Leaders for ripping off their membership - and it's really the fault of bad employers - same reasoning.

Are you saying the station was shut down because of state taxes???? :o

"lowest paid unionists being ripped off by their leaders" could mean anything from exploitation by employers to theft of union revenue.

I don't know what Peter was referring to. Do you? Smile

So you are claiming an under supply of energy if the station closes? On what grounds?

I read a report some time ago that said Australia actually had an oversupply of electricity.

No I'm not a "trade unionist" and I have no connection with HSU.

I don't follow union news articles - penalty rates, yes, not union stuff.

Kathy Jackson and Craig Thompson were sentenced for their crimes.

7/11 ripping off workers happened more recently than that.

The power replacement will come from the NEM.

Good to see you show some welfare for workers Peter.

If you show the same disdain for rogue employers I might even consider this conversation to be something more useful than just union bashing Smile

Peter. You don't know what NEM is, do you?

I reckon rogue employers are just as bad a rogue union officials!!!

One is not better than the other, both live off the backs of regular, basically powerless, workers. Citing rogue employers as somehow justifying rogue union bosses is a furphy. Imagining that anger at rogue union bosses justifies rogue employers is just as silly.

I am therefore very happy that the recent legislation aimed at both these groups was passed by the Senate - in spite of ALP attempts to block it.

It appears a no brainer that the ALP would want to protect workers by shackling both bad union representatives and rogue employers.

But there you go it must be a bit more complicated than it appears.

Anger at rogue union bosses behaviour cannot reasonably be called Union Bashing.

Ripping off union members and the community at large is just exactly that - dishonest - and now even more illegal.

Why would I bother putting up a link if you don't bother reading them?

That's about as ridiculous as saying that I'm born into some Labor sect whatever the F that means.

I'm happy to discuss how energy is sent into multiple states, including Victoria via the NEM if you're really interested in the subject. If not, then why are you wasting your time and mine?
