All,

Following discussions between the moderation and administration team, we have decided to close DTV Forum permanently as of the 1st of July. This will give current group buys and other member to member purchases to complete safely. Note, it is your responsibility to discuss those transactions with your related parties before this date.

We have seen DTV Forum grow wonderfully well over the years, but the need for discussions are better served by other mediums.

We thank you for your patronage, and wish you all the best for the future.

Regards,

DTV Moderation and Administration Team

I'm sorry to hear that Smithy.

Over the years I gained a lot of good DTV advice in the technical forums.

Baby and bathwater?

Yes, quite a shock and not good news at all.

Hopefully something can be done to keep it going.

Some seem to think because they took a few members off to FB that they contributed to the forum's demise... pretty nasty thing to want to claim as something good under ones real name.

In reality it is just the nature of forums becoming quieter everywhere and so many other social media platforms.

Yeah what a pity they're shutting it down. Definitely baby and bathwater.

Haven't been there for a while but I'm assuming there hasn't been much activity on the site?

I reckon shutting down the OT area was probably the beginning of the end.

Curious to know what they mean by "other mediums"

Maybe they're starting a CB radio club. LOL

The announcement has been pulled for the moment...

Possibly a bid might emerge to take over the running of the site?

Had a quick look and there's a new account called AV Group Technologies Smile

DTV has reversed its decision to close and an announcement will be made imminently.

STEREONET ACQUIRES DTV FORUM

Sound Media Group, publishers of StereoNET - Australia’s most well known publication for HiFi and Home Theatre with over 190,000 monthly readers is proud to announce that they have acquired the website and forum known as DTV.

StereoNET Publisher, Marc Rushton, said:

With over a decade worth of content and information, it would be a great loss to consumers for this website to simply disappear. Through constant analysis of our own analytics, we know that consumers rely on information contained within forums even years after it has been published.

This is a good opportunity to preserve this valuable content and ensure consumers have access to this information for years to come.

Well that's good to see. It would have been a shame to have lost all the good info on that site.

From what I understand they will consolidate the database(s) into their existing server in Canberra which should see very fast load times and an end to all the outages (and the whirlpool thread) LOL.

I'll put the CB radio back in the cupboard Smile

Nice to see good news, about folks who see the underlying value of the DTV forums.

I'm very glad DTV Forum accepted Marc/Stereonet's offer to save and take over DTV Forum.

I know Marc understands there is a lot of information and history there for many in the AV world of AUS, so great to see this now announced publicly. [Image: invision_classic_happy.png]
