They did a telephone current affair (i think it was )

they said over 20,000 calls and 88% said "yes we should have another election."

so what does everyone on here think yes or no to another

election?

We have already voted and a point was made. No, to another election. Three years is not long between elections.

Yeah 3 years is not long. Then again, you can do quite a bit of damage in three years! I wonder how much debt they can rack up!

My question is whether i could get 100mbs speed on my current optic fibre line! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> I think we are currently on about 8 megabits per second.

I though cable was always optic fibre! Maybe I was living in my own dream world <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Quote:Cable:

Though often confused with fiber, cable utilizes the coaxial cable that connects to your television set. In contrast to DSL, the quality of a cable connection does not depend on distance so your speed is guaranteed regardless. However, unlike DSL, which runs on a dedicated line, cable connections are typically shared amongst your neighbors, making it a slightly less secure option. As far as speed goes, cable access range from about 3 to 10 Mbps, which is essentially 3 to 4 times faster than DSL. Keeping in mind that this speed is reflected in the price, you should expect to pay a lot more for cable service.

Here are some more interesting links. Seems to suggest Cable can hit speeds of 100mbps

Foxtel and Bigpond Cable at the home is not actually Optical Fibre, its coaxial cable, Glen.

Yes... now my cable fibre dream is shattered! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/officechair.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':officechair:' /> <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/officechair.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':officechair:' />

Oh well. If I had known that I might have voted for the National Broadband Network then! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Many ISP customers forget that very important point Peter has identified, that the fastest speeds are only as fast as the accessed server bandwidth is able to handle. Bottle necks are created when 100s of people access the same server at the same time. The big companies solve this problem by having multiple servers (i think, i'm not actually network trained, i'm a software person).

My prediction is it will cost at least double of what they said. I.e. $86 billion! Maybe we should have a guess how much it will cost thread and then the winner will be selected in 8 or 16 years time!
