Making Friends With Foreigners
#21
i am so used to Celsius i can't handle Fahrenheit! i know 0 C is 32 F. i don't really know how hot 60 or 70 F is though.
70~75 degrees F is perfect weather.

70F = 21.1C

75F = 23.8C

50F = 10C
I see you are not interested in talking about culture differences between nations.
I'm fascinated by culture differences. One of the things I noted from a Russian friend was when I showed him pictures of America, he looked at it and asked "Where are all the people?" - because in Russia, there are people everywhere. Nobody stays inside. In America, it's almost the exact opposite; when we go outside, we get in a car and drive somewhere. Then we get out and go inside.

What shocked me about Russia (although this was during the Iron Curtain days) was how you could have the vast opulence of these buildings crusted with jewels and gold, and fifteen feet away from it people are lined up around the block for cabbage. It was like being in a room that was hot and cold at the same time. Beautiful country, but at the time I was there it seemed like everyone I saw was desperately poor except the police and the military.

So I hear. We have a surprising number of Russian immigrants around my neighborhood (and almost as many Japanese), so I've talked to a lot of people about how Russia has changed. I'd like to get back there sometime and see for myself.

Hi there. I'm Rex from Hong Kong.<img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

I am currently doing a foundation course. Sadly most of my classmates are from Hong Kong and I have no chance to make some friends who are English speakers.<img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

So... I really wish I could make some foreign friends here and learn some native and daily English from you guys.<img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Carlton is a delightful suburb. Don't forget to visit La Mama!!! Often brilliant, often outspoken, often indulgent but always worth seeing whether it works or not. The place you find many top actors doing shows they cannot do main stream.

It is an institution here in Melbourne and a must do experience!!!
