Making Friends With Foreigners
#1
Hello everybody!

Im really glad to see all your leplies here.

I suggest that we shoud discuss the topic: whether we would like to have a foreign friend or not.

The most people here live in Australia - quite a warm place on the planet. But others dont. So the living conditions might vary so hard.

That causes differences in the human mind. Aren't you interested in learning people around the world???

Hi KHV,

Welcome to melbchat. Sure I am always keen to meet new people. Where are you from?

Having a foreign friend can be good. Sometimes its nice to chat with someone on the other side of the planet. You get a whole different perspective. And you never know, you could always go visit them if ever on holidays! That is particularly true if you share a common interest.

Cheers, Glen <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

Hi Glen,

You will be certainly suprised if I say I am from Russia. But I am. I'm from the Far East of Russia, so, I guess, I have almost the same time as you do now. I like Australia and dream to visit it one day. I hate diffrent kinds of spiders ... But the country is so sunny! I'm missing such a warm season.

Here it is quite cold now. Today now the snow flakes are falling down on the ground that is like an iron. Windy, definitely windy. I think you cant even imagine such a weather on your place <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />.

Good Luck, KHV.

we don't get much snow down here that is true. we have a couple of mountains that get snow in winter but they are a far way away from the city. at the moment we are nearing the end of summer. though the warm weather will continue into autumn for another 2 months. i hate the cold! brgghhhh! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

Hi all

I see you are not interested in talking about culture differences between nations. Nobody (except glen) wants to have friends from others countries? Or you are all have them and dont want to share your impressions?

Last month I signed up on a forum that comes out of England and met a few nice folks there that gave me a lot of insight on web marketing and sales.

Although it gets into the 90s everyday during the summer the worst part about it is that it is very humid. Miami is nearly at the very south tip of Florida and I believe that is where it was filmed along with the TV show back in the 80s. We have not had a hurricane (cyclone) in at least 2-3 years through Florida. Katrina hit in New Orleans Lousiana and they have managed to clean up most but not all.

The best thing about Florida is probably our roads. I can lower the suspension on my cars and not worry about tearing up the bottoms of them with bad streets.

Something else I particularly like about this state is that it has some conservative views in general. We don't have emissions regulations, we can use radar detectors and I don't get the feeling that the state is breathing down our neck versus another state like the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Unforutnately here in Florida there is not much really going on in the way of scenic landscapes but the beaches are fair, but the ocean water is not clear.

well you have to love a good road! lowered cars over here are a major headache since we have lots of speed bumps all over the place! (in suburban side streets mostly)..thankfully they don't put them on freeways! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

what is the maximum speed limit? over here freeways are mostly 100km/hr but the odd one is 110kh/hr.

We have speed bumps in the shopping malls and parking lots but if you have a lowered car you get accoustomed to driving over everything as if you have a low rider.

The maximum speed limit is on the 4 to 6 lane freeways you find between cities and it gets up to about 112.65km/hr

From what I see on the Speed channel there is some competitive racing over there, but you all hopefully do not have anything like our NASCAR where there are a bunch of cars that keep driving in a circle do you?

We have a Grand Prix here is Melbourne at Albert Park. It starts very soon so you will probably see this on TV.

The cars going around in a circle do happen here but they are not very popular. I get the impression its mostly just training for Australian drivers who eventually want to become NASCAR drivers.

here is one venue with a similar circular track. its called Calder Park. the "Thunderdome" track is the one that is like a NASCAR track:

Another famous track near Melbourne is the one at Phillip Island. They have the World Superbike Championship there:

The lowest it has been this winter was about 35, and that was one night when we had a really rare low cold front come through the southern part of the US. But typically it never goes under 40 during the winter, and 60~70 in the summer.
