Do You Like Tony Abbott?
#21
I noticed that the Rudd camp are really trying to play up the workchoices angle. Nice trick on their part to deflect attention from the ETS! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> Sounds like the talks in Copenhagen aren't going very well! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Politics and polytix <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' /> The Libs have used the "debt" angle ever since the GFC started.

ETS will probably cost me about $50 a week I guess - going off reports I've read...

Workchoices will probably cost me 10 times that amount because I could lose penalty rates from both my jobs...

So for me personally it's a no brainer - I'll be voting for Rudd again because the alternatives are hilarious <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Quote:MALCOLM Turnbull wanted to become Kim Beazley's shadow finance minister during the second term of the Howard Government, according to senior Labor figures.

FEDERAL Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull denies he has ever tried to join the Labor party, but says he has been courted by ALP figures over the years.

Former prime minister Bob Hawke and former party leader Kim Beasley are among Labor heavyweights who told The Sunday Telegraph that Mr Turnbull had approached them for a job on Labor's then opposition frontbench, in 1999.

But Mr Turnbull says he was, in fact, courted by the ALP after his time heading the push to make Australia a republic.

”I have never approached the Labor party about running for a seat in parliament,” Mr Turnbull said.

Yeah, I remember Kim Beasley talking about Peter Costello moving across as well, then of course Brendon Nelson has a "red" background too doesn't he? Oddly enough, both have been employed by Rudd in the last few months <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/Whistle.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Not sure about Brendon's background but probably "pink" if anything.

Australian politics is so incestuous... I've a mind to dummy vote at the next general.

hmmm. With the focus on the ETS I totally forgot about the Liberal policy on Industrial Relations - they'd better get it right b4 the next election, or Rudd will win by a landslide irrespective of any other policies that the ALP have.

The policy I don't support is their

"We will gouge the workers $$$$ each for $Billion dollar business"...

Yeah that is true. It is always easier to heckle from the side line rather than actually make the tough decisions.

I found it quite surprising lately because on the radio they have been saying Australia has been "cooking the books" when it comes to gree house emissions because we want to be exempt from emissions from drought and bushfires etc.

I am starting to think that it is almost impossible for there to be a "fair" agreement to come out of Copenhagen.

I had not heard the Penny Wrong twist. Nice one.

Well I bet she must be having a hell of a time. What a miserable job trying to get an agreement over there. It would be better spending time at home planting trees. Come home Penny! We need you to plant trees and sequester carbon!!! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

Well I am pretty sure Penny Wrong is not a tree so it would be hard for her to gain much carbon. Though I guess there is carbon in body fat!!! Does that mean we should all eat more?? <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

Peter, perhaps they're union reps? LOL

Personally I think next year will be interesting in the wild world of politics in OZ and I guess the outcome of the next federal election will be down to political ideology whilst the next State elections will be down to a vote of competency - which is why we are more likely to see a change of Government at the state level than at the Federal level.

Workchoices - scare campaign or not - will kill the Libs' chances - regardless of their leader.

Of course small and large business will argue they can't afford to pay workers penalty rates, holidays, sickies etc - but all that tells me is their business is either greedy (ie: making billion dollar profits), or simply not viable in a country where living costs are higher than in most other countries.

The fear of the ETS is lame by comparison. Abbott can only play that card for so long.

The Fed Libs need to win back the support of the workers which extends to divorcing themselves with the idea of tampering with workers pay and rights if they want to have any chance of getting back into office - regardless of what mistakes Kevin Rudd makes.

Anyway, that's my unbiased take on it.
