"Stanford's Mark Jacobson and UC Davis' Mark Delucchi (J&D) published a study in 2010 in the journal Energy Policy examining the possibility of meeting all global energy needs with wind, water, and solar (WWS) power. They find that it would be plausible to produce all new energy from WWS in 2030, and replace all pre-existing energy with WWS by 2050."

Oh yeah it's plausible that we will be shivering in another ice age too.

Possible as opposed to impossible yeah I can see that!

Hmm mm mm
422 trees for every person on planet earth - that's 8 times more than the previous science suggested.
The science is never in - it's merely our present - incomplete understandings

Look at the reason why sceptics feel vindicated - predictions by the much lauded 97% of experts who run so hard to protect their funding and the actuality (Observed temperature increases)
Â
Why does scaremongering spring to mind?
Â
Latest information says that the global temp has risen 1 degree since the Industrial revolution and the advent of mass CO2 emissions.
Â
FYI the industrial revolution started about 300 years ago.
Â
Â
Â
Â
So no increase in temperature since 1998 hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Hope you had a good w/e PZ!
The year you choose is almost irrelevant - the graph shows variation around a horizontal mean

W/E was good, although the shares got messed up of late :o
Â
Planting trees is good, they have a good use for carbon dioxide.

The new process of methane cracking sounds exciting as well

Mate I got out of shares about 18 months ago - and I'm glad.
Â
Â
As for you link - that is the future: science developing new, better, less polluting technology.
Â
What odds there will be almost zero emissions from coal fired power generation in the future?

Pretty high in the long term because there will be a time when we won't be burning ANY coal
Â
It's one of the reasons we should look at alternatives sooner.
Â
I'll take back what I said about the shares as there's a huge upswing today

An upswing today is like having one good stroke playing golf - it keeps you coming back.

Anyone remember the 80's oil price shock?
Â
Anyone remember the " we are running out of oil " claims by greenies and their ilk?
Â
Â
So what happened?
Â
30 years later oil production continues to rise, prices falling.
Â
Â
HmmmmmmmmmÂ
Â
And they wonder why some folks are not impressed by dire predictions made by the same culture for other causes.
Â
1 degree rise in global temperatures in 300 years - Oh my goodness - how dire!

It would seem to me that you need to take a slightly broader view here Peter.
Â
These folks are experiencing a deep religious experience - they feel that they have converted the world to their doomsday view.
Â
If you check out the "agreement" you will see ample wiggle room and plenty of none binding stuff, all of which will be examined for effectiveness after many of the delegates have shuffled off their mortal coil.
Imagine: no one will be able say to them - " Hay Bro yuz got it all wrong"
Â
Â
But they are feeling euphoric - and no need for chemical assistance - just taxpayers $$Â
Â
Bring on the next ice age I say let's really see how smart we are.

Quote:Are Arab princesses allowed to celebrate Christmas?
Â
dont know
Â
I know the Three Wise Men werent locals either, probably where they got their wisdom from
Â
Â
Aw derrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Â
That's the point of the rhetorical query - Hello Mello , need you be so literal?
Â
Yeah, the wise men came from the East - but chronologically they could not have been followers of Mohammed - so Christmas shopping was probably OK back then. :notworthy:
