"A rising trend line would indicate warming "

No Aloy, a rising trend line would indicate warming at a faster rate per year. you could even call it a snowball effect Smile

If you get a 5% pay rise per year, your trend is flat because it's the same rate every year, yeah?

A trend line that lies next to a scale that says "0.23" indicates there IS global warming every year on a scale of 0.23c per year, every year.

That graph says the world is warming, cooling, warming and cooling, but overall it's warming. In 100 years it's 23c hotter on a flat trend of 0.23c per year according to that graph. Scary, but then again, 17 years isn't much to go on.

It reminds me of the boiling frog scenario.

People refuse to react until they see the catastrophic consequences of inaction  Sad but true me thinks.

If you can't understand what a trend is, you can't understand what a trend is.

I know what a trend is. A trend is a direction. Ask Rodney Rude what a trend is if you don't believe me Big Grin

By the way... that spike was an El Nino warming event. We have another one coming real soon.

Let's redo that graph in 12 months Wink

Pretty much the same characteristics as the other one but over a longer period.

As can see Aloy, the last bar is 0.3c prior to that was 0.2c, 0.1c and so on.

The scary thing is the lowest temp in the norties is the same as the highest temp in the 70's.

What happens in another 30 years???

P.S. I didn't mean to be mean but can you see what I mean about mean? LOL

BludgerTrack: 52.5-47.5 to Coalition

"The upward swing to the Coalition continues, with the BludgerTrack poll aggregate now recording the Coalition improving on their 2013 election performance in New South Wales."

Er anything relevant to global warming about this beautiful graph and does it show a warming trend followed by a short static trend - and your point is that you agree with my point about a pause - or a turning point in global warming?

Not trying to be mean here either

Or something? Confusedports:

What the graph shows is an increasing degree of temperature anomalies and an overall temperature increase.

I thought everyone had already agreed the planet was warming?

Isn't the current debate about whether it's man made or not?

Every does not agree and never has - that's pure humanity!,

The data says that warming has stopped for the last 17 years.

Is this a pause in a previous warming trend, or is it a change in trends?

Only time will tell.

Did humans contribute? Maybe - but what else contributed?

This is not politics, this is reasonable questioning of popularly held opinions.

Shir Smile

My reasonable question is why there's a horizontal blue line in that yellow graph when all the others I've seen have an upward trend?

I won't bore everyone with too many graphs but NASA's pretty good Smile

We'll see just how well done the conservatives did when we see the monthly business survey and the weekly consumer confidence survey over the next few days...

No we will not.

You fall into the trap of believing that long term federal policies bring short term results.

Example FTA's will bring their results over several years.

I do however perceive that there appears to be a change in international confidence which may represent a change toward improving economic conditions - let's hope that this is indeed the case.

You are using a 150 year graph to dispute a 17 year phenomenon - my only claim.

Even your graph shows a slowing of the 5 year running mean - a lagging indicator - that actually confirms my point.

"A slowing of the 5 year running mean" doesn't indicate "no global warming" however.

Yes, it's slowing, but that doesn't mean it's stopped.

Long term federal policies? Didn't know we had any. Political parties are driven by polling...

FTA's? Australia doesn't have a good track record of outcomes so far. If it did we wouldn't be having such large trade deficits.

I'm the conservatives - represented by MT - showed a deal of class in response to the grubby " Caymans" attacks.

Mr Shorten might well have shown a little leadership and shut down this squalid line of attack, but he didn't, thereby demonstrating clearly his lack of class.

The present ALP behaviours are the conservatives best friends!

Just watch the next polls!

I really believe once Turnbull takes some real action on climate and other issues the ALP will be in huge trouble.

I was lucky to have Labors NBN but since ocving I have the crap version. Crumbs e real one was sunning.

If Turnbull goes for the wiring that goes to your home instead of the silly clans version he will romp in.

Its always struck me as odd that Libs did nt back the superior model.

I know business preferred it.
