Joe Ho was the one who put barnacles in the ship in the first place.

Don't see what any of this had to do with the so called "loony left" though?

Investing in infrastructure is indeed a good thing!

You can invest more in infrastructure if you don't have to pay $100m a day in interest fees on your existing borrowings.

Imagine if there were no debt that would be $100m a day - that's a dayto spend on australian infrastructure instead of paying to overseas lenders - you know it makes sense!!!!

I understand the various schools of thought on economic management.

When coupled with political movements such schools of thought tend to dwindle into the usual 2 options.

Both make sense, logically... but I lean to one side, like we all do.

There's no point trying to prove each other "wrong" as that is not completely possible and there's no point over simplifying a complex subject... it's a matter of debating which approaches will provide the best result for Australia, whilst continuing to look after it's people.

I know you understand the various economic theories... Aloy, I have a good memory as you do. Rather selective at times however... Wink We've been here before many times before, so there's probably no need to cover very old ground.

As I'm sure you're aware, no one with any kind of sense would suggest we continue to spend and spend no matter what the economic circumstances.

Austerity can be the nail in the coffin for a sinking economy and often too little too late... thank God our economy is not at that point and hopefully never will be.

Please remember though the deficit was doubled and then some by your favourite mob. Tongue

Smithy: hoping is nice inside, but it delivers nothing.

Hoping for a balanced budget is lovely but it won't happen as long as folks demand we spend more than we gather in tax.

It's not as complex as some would have you believe and I know there is a time to borrow and a time to save, unfortunately it appears that there is more time devoted to borrowing than there is to repaying.
