What Do You Think Of Public Transport In Melbourne?

As of 2012, what are your thoughts about the public transport system?



What part of Melbourne's public transport could be changed or improved? e.g. Faster trams, more trains running, cleaner.



How do you think it has improved in the past ten or twenty years?



How do you think it will be in the future, say like by 2030? Will we still have the same trams running, or?

I think it's a disgrace. Customer service is pathetic at ticket counters, a lot of fobs who don't know what they're doing and plenty thuggish mumma's boy in disguise ticket inspectors as well.

To be honest, I think it's pretty good now, especially compared to before. The trains are almost always on time, they come pretty frequently (on my line at least) and it's pretty easy to get to where you want. Just 5 years ago, you'd be surprised if your train was less than 5 minutes late.



I do have to complain that busses aren't frequent enough and they often depart like 5 minutes early, which is awful. I guess in the future they'll expand the tram network out a bit, and put some more train stations in between. We've been asking for a Westfeild Southland station for years, and the train line goes right past the place anyway.



And I don't mind the bad hygiene on public transport. Adds to the charm of it.

The only complaint I have is that I found it difficult to locate anyone who could tell me how the ticketing system for the trams worked. The last time I was in Melbourne was a couple of weeks before they introduced Myki, so I suppose it's all different now anyway.
