Hi everyone, I just came across a guide called "Top 10 Free Melbourne Attractions". I am just curious to know if you agree that these are our ten best things to see or do in Melbourne for free?

3) Federation Square
4) The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia
5) Australian Centre for the Moving Image
6) National Gallery of Victoria
7) Royal Botanic Gardens
8) Crown Casino Complex

These are some really good ideas, it's always great to know what you can do for free. The Royal Botanic Gardens sound really nice, has anyone been there?

hi visitor,
yes you are quite right.
china town is great! its on Little Bourke street. they have some celebrations, particularly around Chinese new year.
they also have lots of cheap places to eat. that is the main attraction to me! they have all sorts of Asian food including Malaysian, Thai, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese...

I loved the Crown Casino - that's definitely a must-see. And it was the only place in the world where I ever won money at the slot machines. (If you go there, check if they still have the "Panther Magic" slots game - maybe it'll be lucky for you too.)

Hi Glenn, thanks for the welcome. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />
I'm not a bigtime gambler either, I have a limit and when it's gone I just watch everyone else lose. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />
Another fun, free thing to do in Melbourne is scour the bookstores - you'll see a lot of authors they don't carry in the book chains in the States, or at least I did. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />

as a variation of that, i often like to go to the newsagent and read their magazines for free <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' /> hahaha it is easiest in a supermarket where none of the staff care about free loaders <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />

You can combine that idea with a general tour of the supermarkets - which are fun just by themselves: all those foreign foods with odd names. Toss some local food into your cart, choose a long line, and read everything at your leisure.
(If you get to the cash register before you're through reading, just jump to the back of another line.)

No, I'd really buy the food! (I wouldn't want to tick off any Aussie supermarket owners.) I'd just take my time doing it. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />

i went to the newsagent today to read some computer magazines. though i felt a little guilty walking straight out the store so i stopped and looked at the bargain book rack a bit...then i felt better...i still didn't buy anything though! LOL <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />
