i might visit crown casino next time i'm in melbourne, but only to see the place and watch the people - i think i'll keep my wallet in my bag thank you very much. mind you i did win $11 at star city casino (in sydney) a couple of months ago. i was with some friends who were playing the machines (i wasn't) and, in an idle moment, i pushed a few buttons on one without putting anything in and out came a one dollar coin! i put it back in and before i knew where i was i had $11. i decided not to push my luck any further.

the one and only time i've played one of those machines.

The real "best" attractions in Melbourne are Warburton, Grampians, Port Fairy, Inverloch but they are a bit out from the CBD.

I am mentioning what's for free in Melbourne and is also unique to Melbourne.

1. A bike ride along the Yarra River Tracks. Doing this in less than one hour you will see Southbank, Federation Square, Dight Falls, Ceres Farm, Botanical Gardens, Studley Park Boat House. There are more little unknown finds, why not try it. I use to see it everyday when riding to work and never got tired of it. Even with without these stop overs, it's a scenic and healthy ride.

I second this <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/Money Eyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

You'll go through Yarra Bend Park, which is entirely different from the Royal Botanic yet just as nice if not more.

Other places that are free and wonderful to visit are Parliament House and the State Library of Victoria. With Parliament House, you can do a free tour if Parliament is not sitting. The Library has also has free tours, as well as a wide range of magazines.

I would have thought that the City Circle Tram is one of Melbourne's tourist attractions - and it's free. I found myself using it for short distances which I would normally walk, just because it's fun to use - it's like stepping back in time - and you see the City as well. In Sydney the only way to have a trip on a vintage tram is to go to the tramway museum at Loftus....
