The Melbourne program includes five initiations and one public talk that explains Mahayana Buddhist practices suitable for every day life.
These are elaborate Tibetan ceremonies that give the participant insight into the special character of each of the deities. The deities represent aspects of enlightened wisdom.
Thu 20 Sep 2007, 7:30pm - Saraswati Initiation
Saraswati represents art, learning and music. She is always depicted playing the veena, an ancient sitar. This initiation gives a special blessing for those who are engaged in the arts or education.
Fri 21 Sep 2007, 12:30pm - Green Tara and the 21 Taras Initiation
Vajrapani is a wrathful deity who represents the power of the Buddhaâs wisdom mind.
Fri 21 Sep 2007, 7:30pm - Vajrapani Initiation
Green Tara and the 21 Taras give the blessing of enlightened activity.
Sat 22 Sep 2007, 2:00pm - Parting from the Four Attachments (Public Talk)
An explanation of Mahayana Buddhist practices suitable for every day life.
Sun 23 Sep 2007, 10:00am - Amitayus Initiation
Amitayus gives the blessing of long life.
Sun 23 Sep 2007, 2:00pm - Medicine Buddha Initiation
Medicine Buddha is the Buddha of healing energy. This initiation is good for healing the body and mind, and also for becoming a healer.
(Earlier publicity advertised an Amitabha Initiation. This has been replaced by the Medicine Buddha Initiation.)
Attending an initiation is a special experience. While participants do not have to be Buddhist or have any prior Buddhist training, they must have a respectful attitude to the Buddhist religion and the initiating lama.
Meditation practices called sadhanas are expected to be available at the end of these initiations.
