Well I admit it might be difficult to market the idea.

There you go! So I was subconsciously picking up on military technology and applying it to everyday practical non-lethal situations! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> Who says...war...what is it good for?

Yes they are nuclear gliders!! (with backup engines)

The first company on the market will want to use the name "Emissionless Arrow". Because the technology has no emissions and it flies like an arrow. You cannot really call it "Green Arrow" due to the risk of nuclear melt down.

I cant really join in with your chat boys.

I am simply disgusted with my once beloved ALP. Great policies but now its ego.Nothing but ego, ego. ego. They will lose and they only have themselves to blame.

Abbot depresses me even more.

I am not scared to debate but frankly have nothing to say.

It incredibly sad.

I think it would have been good if simon crean ran as leader. They need someone nicer. Julie will always be tainted by her back stabbing take over. If Kevin lost his way then surely she should resign as soon as she lost her way! It is only common decency! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Well that might give his leadership credentials a boost for the future..... if gillard resigns.

Julia may lose an election but she will not be knived she has too many great offers awaiting her. I know she is not admired much here for reasons I still dont get but over seas she is greatly respected. I know she will get a highly lucrative international post and she will handle it brilliantly.

I am sure you will be shown to be wrong.

Actually I think its been a very good Government although I admit I was very much in the Rudd camp.

Frankly no Gov has ever been perfect .

I will give you a better response Peter but I am, a bit tired.

The Abbot Gov must be seen to act on climate.

The debate is over, there is simply too much evidence now.

Lets consider interest rates. Today they are only 6.42 but under the coalition they were higher at 8.59

Unemployment under ALP less than 5%b and that is under a global crisis.

Pension increases highest ever since Federation.

Worse Gov ...I dont think so.

THe greatest problem has been the absolute lies that a Mudoch press has told.

The ALP has been accused of the so called school hall controversy. GARBAGE!!

Only three or four schools.

These were due to poor contracts.

Now the facts

Under Labor

3,100 new libraries

2,900 covered areas

500 science and language centres

and it goes on.

Debt? Rubbish.

I will give a clear account of this.

John Howard left Labor a country in a mess. Infrastructure had dwindled down to the bare minimum. Australia spends millions on a war based on a lie. The PM was a much greater liar than Gillard ever was. Weapons of mass destruction Tampa.

Australia rewards Howard by not just throwing his lousy Gov out but treats him with contempt. He holds the rare distinction of losing HIS OWN SEAT!!!

Sorry about the over drive and my comments are purely economic and certainly not attacks on Peter and others. I just feel the Lib spin and Murdoch press has told as many lies as they accuse Labor of. Obviously all are entitled to their view but I just want to add the other side.

A few more facts about the worse Gov.. under Labor the highest income Australians who are worth millions will actually pay tax! Look at the incredible indulgences by the Super schemes favoring the rich.

Under Liberal Coalition 3.6 million low paid workers will pay 4 billion in tax

About the debt. Lets clear that nonsense up.

To quote

" THAT Liberal campaign ad - ``Labor's debt is growing by $100 million a day'' - achieves its aim of scaring you, notify your doctor now. Because we're about to reveal what the number would be were we in as deep a ditch as most of the rest of the world.

Yesterday we lambasted Labor for overstating its money-management credentials. We revealed repeated instances of ministers claiming we're leading the developed world on measures like fiscal soundness and unemployment, when we're not.

But the Coalition is being just as economical with the truth. Many have wondered where the Libs' figure of $100 million comes from.

According to Joe Hockey's office and Liberal Campaign HQ, it is derived from dividing the forecast deficit this financial year - $40.7 billion - by the 365 days in a year. They then used a ``rounded average'' of $100 big ones. If only repaying the debt was so simple.

Tony Abbott's debt ad pretends it's as if the Global Financial Crisis never happened. Three-quarters of that $100 million a day is a GFC-induced dive in tax revenue - something Messrs Abbott and Hockey would have been unable to stop had they been at the helm.

The other quarter is mainly stimulus spending.

The haste with which it was put together led to deadly consequences. But by acting quickly Treasury estimates 200,000 jobs were saved. This improves income tax receipts and reduces welfare payments, thereby limiting the level of the deficit.

Now for the figures that are even scarier than the Liberal ads.

If our budget shortfall was going to be as wide as America's, then Australia's debt would be growing by $300 million a day.

This is because the 2011 US budget deficit - as a proportion of GDP - is forecast to be three times the size of Australia's at 8.3 per cent versus 2.8 per cent.

If we were in a hole as deep as the UK we'd be borrowing $360 million a day, and for Ireland it would be $415 million a day.

The reality is Australia has among the lowest levels of debt in the developed world. Our net government debt will peak at 6 per cent of GDP.

In Europe, most countries struggle to adhere to the EU's 60 per cent net debt cap. Japan will be above that level until 2084, according to a major report.

Importantly, Australia is likely to stop adding to its borrowing much sooner than most of the rest of the world - 2012-13, when net debt is set to peak at $94 billion.

Check out the article at the Daily Telegraph's site.

So there you have it. A Liberal scare campaign on debt made up of exaggeration and deliberate miscalculation.

But Federal Labor stands by its record over the past three years.

We acted to protect jobs during the GFC and, at 5.1 per cent, unemployment in Australia is now lower than any of the major advanced economies and around half that of the US and Europe.

The federal budget will return to surplus in 2012-13 – three years ahead of schedule. This is ahead of every single major advanced economy and years before countries like the US, UK and Canada.

Mr Abbott opposed the policies that kept Australia out of recession during the GFC.

Under Mr Abbott’s leadership, Australia would have experienced a deep recession and our economy would have shrunk by 0.7 per cent last year.

Two hundred thousand Australians would have lost their jobs during the crisis, and today, more than 800,000 Australians would be out of work."

So I hope in the debate we can at least stop talking the debt hysteria.

I think the Libs won't win power since most of the policies they announced so far are a bit lame. The non-NBN plan is one of them!

I actually think Tony Abbott has done all he can now and he should step aside and let Malcolm take back the reigns. Tony was good at pointing out flaws but struggles to come up with good ideas. It is so much easier to criticise than it is to create.
