Wangaratta Jazz Festival 2007

Friday 2nd November - Monday 5th November 2007

Four days of Jazz, Blues, Food, Wine and Fun!

Quote:About the Festival

The Wangaratta Festival of Jazz began in 1989 as the dream of local business people who wanted to establish a significant festival for their town and region - a Festival that would be unique and that would attract many tourists to the area. A Feasibility Study was commissioned and the study concluded that, although there were numerous festivals in Australia, there was the opportunity to base one on modern and contemporary jazz - "If the standard of performance was consistently high". As no such event existed in Australia, it was recommended that such a festival be built around an internationally recognised competition.

Since its first year in 1990, the Festival has demanded uncompromising excellence in performance and a balanced show-casing of all jazz styles. At the core are the National Jazz Awards for young musicians.

Today artists from around Australia are honoured to play at the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz. The festival boasts 100 performances by local, national and international acts, 200 musicians, 11 venues and the largest Blues festival in Victoria. The Festival has won numerous tourism and sponsorship awards and is recognised internationally as the best jazz event in Australia. In 2000 the festival was awarded the status of Victorian Hallmark Event recognising the significance of the festival to the Wangaratta region and Victoria.

Hi There!

Im new to this site so bear with me .....

I went to Wangaratta yesterday to catch a gig at John Gehrig Winery...

I travelled up the Hume in a choc-a-block car filled with guitars, a dobro and a fiddle, 3 musicians and my Aunt!

Best day trip i have had in a long time...

The gig being Nick Charles and the Bluestrings...

Fantastic setting, they played to a busy but relaxed crowd lounging around tables on the lawn and under trees, from the decking and it sounded great! Fantastic venue and fantastic wine!!

I brought home one little memento, a wine galss from the winery with Wangaratta Jazz and Blues festival 2007 stamped on it.

Well today is Cup Day and after a MASSIVE weekend of music... im ready for a relaxing day! Yep, i filled my entire weekend with music. Friday night saw me at a great cafe/resturant in NTH Ringwood, Yarra Blue. I was there to catch Nick Charles and Pete Fidler with their guitars, dobro and a mandolin. Great night! Saturday, i went to a gig i also go to regulary, again it was Nick and Pete at St Andrews pub. A great arvo with great food, great atmosphere and fantastic music! A Must for all! They play there about once a month, a gig guide is available on charlesguitar.com

Sunday evening @ 5pm i walked in2 the now much needed smoke free Lomond Hotel to catch Nick and the bluestrings play a phenomanal gig! This band are well worth a look, consisting of guitars, dobro, fiddle and upright doublebass. That place was jumping!

Well now for a well earned coffee and relax. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/fishie.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
