Men's Haircut In Melbourne
#21
Hi guys

I wanted to share with all the men in Melbourne who are in need of or a searching for receiving a good haircut around town.

I was wandering around town today I noticed Biba Barbershop was open and advertising Men's haircuts only on the board from 10am. Biba have decided to open on Saturdays to service blokes who miss out to have their haircut during the week due to work and other commitments.

Andrew, who runs the Men's section and who teaches all the students, is available and doing all the haircuts on Saturdays from now on. There was definitely a buzz happening down in the basement today - good music, good convo - another great haircut for me!!!!

Check him out if you haven't already.

Cheers

Andy

ADMIN EDIT: Andrew no longer works there so please take note!!! (as of June 2011)

And just to get out of the city and down SE subs, Noble Park to be exact.

Noble mens hairdressing - $15 a cut and they are bloody funny as well.

All the old italians and Greeks go to them, but they are pretty good.

I have been going there for 20 years and they have NEVER given me a bad hair day !!

Cheaper is not always better when it comes to haircuts.

yeah true! I still prefer the "free" option of DIY though! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

My mum cut my hair until I was about teenage age... did you get a mum haircut too, glen?

My mother "tried" to .. but I couldn't let her.... to get a straight edge, she would put sticky tape on my sisters fringe !!!

I ran away from home that day !!!

Yeah I had mum hair cuts when I was kid. Then I went thru my cool stage when I at high school and went to the hair dresser. Then I went thru my long hair phase when I just let is grow to a silly long length! And then I had my shave it at home phase which has been going at least 10 years now <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':gathering:' /> hahaha
Has anyone heard anything about 'Man o Man' or something like that in Mckillop Lane in the CBD?
'Man, What A Fuss' in McKillop Lane is really good, but a little pricey. I've had two really great haircuts from there. The stylists take a lot of time assessing your hair type and ask questions about your personality to determine what style would suit you best.

The best part is that when they're washing your hair, you get a great neck massage which is really relaxing!

Typical haircuts are around $65, so they are pretty expensive, but it's definitely worth it if you can afford it, or for a special occasion.

I just wanna share some of my haircut experiences in Melbourne. Sorry I talk a lot but I'm bored at work...

I went to Biba during my uni years a couple of times. It's a bit hit and miss as they're students and they take bloody ages. One haircut took 2 hours coz the girl was scared to start on my next section of hair without asking her supervisor. Also a lot of lame conversation as they're new and use standard questions. Hair ended up good but never went back as I didn't wanna waste my time (unless it was a hot chick cutting my hair).

I don't mind a cheap $8 haircut in Footscray, but they tend to overdo your hair with thinning scissors as they like that style. If you can communicate with the barely english speaking hairdresser properly you may end up with a half decent cut. Sometimes it's a bit hard as they strongly impose their version of what they want as they cut your hair. You have to be firm and show them who's boss. Once again, hit and miss.

I've tried Toni and Guy a couple of times. Paid $100 the first time and the "art director" only cut the back of my hair as he said the front was perfect! This took 1 hour and they gave me a coffee to try and compensate. Not good. I went back last week and paid a bit less for a normal stylist who gave me a great cut in Melbourne Central. She did a great job and also she was hot =]

So in the end no matter where you go it will be hit and miss. It's not where you go, but who you see. You have to find a good hairdresser, not a good salon I reckon.

I cut my hair myself sometimes as well. Where I go just depends on whatever's closest on the day I have a bar hair day.

Andrew the barber is back at Biba. I tracked him down. He is now cutting on Saturdays at 236 Johnston Street Fitzroy. For those of you who have visited him before he is a great men's cutter. Thought I'd share the good news and inform all of the guys reading this who are in search of a great cutter to try him out!!

Cheers
