thank you for the reply. unfortunately i don't have any rental history overseas as well because i own my house.

I'm also told that i have to have a steady income to rent an apartment. that's another problem for me since i wont be working until i move to melbourne.

hi chelsea, probably it will be easiest to share a room with someone who already has a lease. That is, you sub-let a room from a tenant. Should be more easy going I think!

I think that's a good idea, Thank You.

I guess The only reason why property agent need all those requirement, is because they need to make sure receiving money every weeks and secure their reputation. if that the only reason how bout if i able to pay the whole 1 year rent money? .... is that make the property agent stop asking me all that?

Or i still not qualified to rent an apartment?

Once again Thank You

hi chelsea, you might pay the rent but then trash the house! so they need to know you are not just a crazy person with money!!! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' /> the reference is partly to see if you can pay and partly to see if you are NICE (and not crazy) <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

Hahaha... Good Point Glen!

Well I'm not going to trash the House that will cause the bond money gone forever. I also wants to earn good reputation since I'm a new comer. so i will be a good girl and sign all those papers...

Oh well... if 1 year rent money not enough..... i have to think something else then..... hmm...

Well there is no harm trying, but if they knock you back then just sublet and it should be fine <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' /> I guess if you speak to them on the phone they may get a chance to see what you are like <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

Hi Chelsea

Unfortunately real estate agents will not allow you to rent a house without viewing it first. I recommend getting yourself a short term rental for a month and during this time look around the suburbs and areas that you like and start applying for a long term rental. If you go with one of the relocation agents they usually provide you with a reference for the short time you have stayed in their accommodation which helps in securing a long term rental. Most agencies require that you have money available to pay the rent for the first 6 months, by law they cannot accept this money up front but they like to see it sat in your bank account.

For short term accommodation try
