Rent Market
#1
I'm a 19yo Perth girl, moving to Melbourne in late June to start at UniMelb. I would also like to bring my dog with me, and can't afford to pay more than $190 a week max for rent...

Anyone got any advice on where/how/when to look?

Also, I can't drive so depend on cycling and public transport.

i would suggest you bring a tent as you will be struggling to find anything in that price range <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Rolleyes' />

having a dog will make things close to impossible for you as you will be chasing a share house and most would not accept a dog.

As Glen has already suggested you will probably only be in the position to apply for share rental properties (near the CBD) and the only kind of baggage that helps with share rental applications is a huge wide screen TV not a pooch.

Congratulations on getting into Melbourne University‼ [Image: 220.gif]

Surprisingly I've had two people contact me about it... I'm also considering leaving her in WA with my brother to start with, as even if I find a place now, I don't want to risk getting there and finding that it's not going to work long term. Which is what makes searching from afar so frustrating. I really don't want to have to go through an agent but I know who or whatever I find I want to talk plenty before I go to make sure it all runs smoothly.

So maybe I'm better budgeting for 2 weeks in a youth hostel while I house hunt when I get there?

I'm hunting pretty early as is,but yeah, sharehouse is my plan.

And don't people live in tents in Melbourne? Really? Wow! Haha

I'm not really sure how hostels work but i've always thought that a stamped passport was required for entry.

Nuh, I've stayed in hostels in Aust plenty of times, there are no rules like that, just some sort of ID. Usually $20 a night at cheapest
