Hi all & Glen,
I've doing some research lately about buying used car, i understand about RWC, REGO & INSURANCE.
and i also understand buying from "Private" seller does not need to pay for the tax.
My Questions is, if i buy from used "Car Dealer"
how much more do i have to pay for car with let say $20.000 price tag (used).
how is Tax the calculation?
Any Help would be most appreciated
Chelsea

I would have thought the motor vehicle duty (i.e. tax) etc would be the same regardless of who you buy from. Only real difference (as far as i know) is that if you buy from a dealer they will usually give you a warranty (whereas a private seller will not give you any warranty). And a dealer will normally arrange the RWC (whereas the private seller might expect you to pay for the RWC).
To work out the transfer fees you can have a look at the VicRoads website. They have some calculators you can use.

For insurance, check out Allianz. I think they are often cheap (but not always).
If you buy a car which is already registered then I think you will not need to pay any registration fee until it expires. It costs about 600 bucks per year to register a car. I just paid mine! Ouch!
If you have any more questions try giving VicRoads a call on 131171
Cheers, Glen
