I'd Like To Introduce Myself!

Hello everyone! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':Idea:' />



I would like to introduce myself. My name is Deanna and I'm new to Australia.

I come from Bettendorf, Iowa (...where it is already getting cold... <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/kosa.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':gathering:' /> ) and have been in Australia since August 18th. I am here because my husband was promoted and relocated with his employer.

Together, we have three children, two of whom are with us here. Our oldest daughter, Jess, is still in Iowa as she started college in the fall. Our middle is our son, Sam who is 13. Our youngest daughter, Jadwin is 11. They are adjusting quite well. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':laugh:' />



So, I don't live in Melbourne. We live in Torquay and absolutely love it here. I have been to Melbourne several times and am excited to get to the City more. I worked at home in Iowa, but am not working here. I love hearing all about Australia and am so excited to explore this country. We will be here for three years at least. I'm hoping to make some new friends with this (and a few other) forums and am anxious to chat.



I hope to meet some new folks soon!

I DID NOT know that about Bells Beach. I was thinking it was filmed in Australia somewhere, but didn't know where. We have gone to Bells and checked it out. Everyone is taking surf lessons *except me! And my husband purchases boards for himself and the two kids. The kids love the surf and are having a ball learning.

Glen,sorry to shatter your illusions,

but that wasn't Bells Beach.

If you look closely there are pine trees and a train track in the film.

There are no pine trees at Bells or a train track.

I loveeeee Torquay. I was there last weekend looking at surfboards (too expensive, though!).

You're lucky to live there.

I'm sure you will get annoyed with all the tourists in summer though.

Everyone in the family got surfboards here. Go Ride A Wave on Bell Street is a good place to talk to. That's where we got all of ours.

It will get crazy in the summer from what I hear, but it's ok.
