Sydney house prices are on the hooch; get rid of negative gearing

They'd probably get ride of negative gearing for future investments .. existing ones will still be honoured..

Something that is very likely to happen, as that will ensure the rich becomes richer, and poor becomes poorer.

The biggest concern for me is the labour price index in the private sector. Pay rises are becoming a thing of the past, so don't expect the (sluggish) consumer confidence to vastly improve anytime soon.

Prices are dropping (if one dismisses education and insurances), people are also paying down debt... So in a way it's actually not a bad thing, just no extra money to prop up the economy..

It's up to the government to spend now, too bad with Hockey controlling the purse the government still have NFI.. They can only talk, they can't seem to do anything. Best they can come up with is nailing the manufacturing coffin, by signing more FTAs.

Hockey failed solely because of the "doctor tax" and trying to raise the pension age to 70.

Backbencher Hockey was saying things Treasurer Hockey never would have. In doing so, he has lobbed a couple of modest handgrenades his colleagues will now be left to defuse.

Among them, Mr Hockey suddenly extolled the virtues of changes to negative gearing, means testing of private health insurance, reduction of tax concessions on superannuation funds, reshaping the GST, and even the NBN, which Mr Hockey now says was a terrific Labor idea.

This is what happens when you become a human again and no longer have to tow the party line I guess!
