A Day in Pompeii will be on display at Melbourne Museum from 26 June to 11 October 2009.

Open daily 10am - 5pm and until 9pm Thursdays

Adult $20, Concessions $14

Child $12, Family $54

Day in Pompeii unearths the story of daily life in the ancient city with priceless objects on show. Experience firsthand the dramatic eruption of Mt Vesuvius in a specially created immersive 3D theatre.

The exhibition is full of things and stuff from and about Pompeii as well as workshops, events and a special public lecture series.

‘This exhibition is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see Roman treasures from almost 2000 years ago.’

The exhibition will feature over 250 objects from daily life in Pompeii and surrounds, as well as a number of body casts.

About Pompeii

On August 24, A.D. 79, the Roman city of Pompeii was buried by the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The pumice and thick volcanic ash that ended the lives of so many also encased the city in a virtual time capsule for the next 17 centuries. The city remained largely lost and forgotten until rediscovered by archaeologists in the early 1700s, resulting in Pompeii today being one of the most complete and intact archaeological sites in the world.

What is a timed entry ticket? Can anyone help explain to me what this means?

Quote:To maximise the quality of your visit, A Day in Pompeii is a timed-entry ticketed exhibition.

I am guessing that means you need to specify a time you will arrive. But I don't know whether that means you need to see the exhibition in a certain period of time.

I found the following which is not particularly enlightening:

Quote:Select the time you’d like to visit A Day in Pompeii. We suggest you allow approximately one hour to see the exhibition. Your ticket also includes general entry into Melbourne Museum and you can do this at any time that same day.

"A Day in Pompeii" might be like the Scienceworks' Lightening show that is shown periodically throughout the day; however, timed-entry sounds more like a 2-hour transport ticket. *shrug*

Yeah i got that impression as well! I would hate to be rushed to see everything! It would take the fun out of it I think <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
