Hi,
My husband and I are looking at buying a property in the eastern suburbs after moving here from UK last year. We currently live in Elwood at the moment which we love but are looking somewhere in our price range as well as closer to work.
We have approx $400k and work in Boronia and Dandenong, want to raise a family at some stage so good schools will be important in the future but would like to be close to good restaurants at the moment.
I was thinking maybe Mt Wavery, Chadstone or even Mulgrave? Any advice would be appreciated!

I would vouch for box hill.
Although its got more asians living there, box hill north towards Doncaster is quite a decent place to live.
Box hill well connected by tram, train and buses.
Safety is also there, i travel after midnight almost twice a week, so far no issues.
The stupid love songs, now sound so real

I beg to differ on this one.

Definitely monopoly of asians i wud say 60-70% asians including Boxhill north and South.
I live here in box hill and during crisis time when i needed a job desperately, i could not get one in box hill because i wasnt multi lingual - chinese and english..... I would like to share an incident with you ...
About a year and half ago, i was desperate for a job, my parents could no longer support me as they had been doing so for over 5-6 months now. I needed a job desperately preferably in box hill as i was living there. Almost all the ads for vacancy were in asian language. But then one day finally, I saw an ad for a counter hand in ENGLISH... "yaaay" i finally found a vacancy, i went in person... about a couple of people had come to apply for the job too and all of them were INDIANS (including me). The owner at once said that the position was filled to the other indians, i was left alone and then he approached me and said it was still available and called me inside.... The first question he asked me inside was in chinese... i just knew "ni hou", so i said "ni hou"... He looked in astonishment... and asked if i knew cantonese or mandarin(spoke in english) - i replied "none" ........... there went my job.....
