Hi everyone,
Have been in Melbourne for almost 8 years, but I'm finding it very difficult to meet people from different diversity. I mean I have no problem making friends and all, but I find ppl tend to stick to their own cluster group/background. Or maybe it's just me tht is finding it difficult? I'm A 27 y/o Chinese girl that would call herself outgoing and chatty, love to learn about different culture.
Can someone tell me if there's any event/place I could go to meet new people?
If not, hey maybe we should come up with one?
Cheers,
Pasquale

I've tried Pasquale... I've tried.
Welcome to Melbourne Chatâ¼
Interest groups are probably a great way to meet like minded people; however, diversity in any one place would be hard to find. We all tend to cliqueâmaybe try the UN (United Nations).

Welcome Pasquale. I used to have a friend named Pasquale but he was an italian not chinese!
It is true that iblis tried to organise a social event! But he only tried once! I think that as number of members in the melbourne chat forum grow, there will be more and more interest in having some sort of social event. So don't give up yet Iblis!!
Cheers, glen

Thanks guys, nice to meet you two! Yes, Forgot to mention I'm new! Yes it is very Italian. An ex-colleague, Italian of course, calls me little Pasquale.. Don't knwo why really!!
I didn't think it would be easy to org events - I have lots friends in that field, but they are mainly clubbing and for younger crowd. Maybe I should venture into that.. But yes don't give up!! Maybe start something small, have like weekend gatherings/activities Or so? Woul love to come to those to expand my circle of friends!!
Thanks for keeping forums like this going... How long has this forum been going?
Cheers,
Pasquale

Awesome, where is everyone from? Melb metro or country?
Yea I have thoughts of doing a ticketed event (a networking thing) but it's too costly for venue hire and entertainment costs in case the responds doesnt cover the cost - hence been putting on hold.. But still hopeful..
But really nice to meet y'all.. Tpot why don't u organise something then?
One more question, where does everyone hangs out now? I guess I've come to an age where clubbing is out of the question and sometimes me and my friends just wanting to chill on weekends but couldnt find a nice comfy lounge with life bands. Any suggestions?

At the minute, I live in Geelong West (have been since early August last year)... and head to Bentleigh East in Melbourne's South East once a month for a family weekend visit.
...and generally, I don't hang out.

yeah iblis is too busy running/jogging!!!
me on the other hand...well i don't hang out either! hahaha but my reasons are different. i am too busy washing dishes, washing clothes, vacuuming, or going fishing or going to cheap chinese restaraunts with the gf. that seems to occupy most of my time these days. i don't know if i mentioned it but i moved in with my girl friend recently and so i am still adjusting to domestic bliss. It has been pretty good so far though I always feel sleepy! I will try and get to bed a bit earlier! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />

not too bad so far. though we are in a terrrible old run down house! oh well. we have tried to make it a bit nicer by putting in brighter light bulbs to lighten the place up. the windows are so small it is just plain silly!

Congrats on the house sharing, Glen. Did you manage to find a "nice" place in South Melbourne?

Geelong is faar.. Assume u also work there, coz travelling will be a pain otherwise.
Congrats to u too guys..
1) hard to find boys tht do house chores.
2) hard to live on own, I know alot of local friend who still lives at home for the convenience of it.
South melb is a very good area, near MSAC.
My ideal area would be Port melb but it is soo expensive, would love to get a home in beaconscove (i call it leggo land), but it's hard enough to deal with the city!!
I think a home is what u make out of, small or big run down or not, as long as it is cozy.
I wish I'm like u guys, but I can't stay at home too much, being a Sagi, I love going out and do things..
