I haven't actually seen all that many Australian films. Here are my favourites in chronological order:

The Man from Snowy River (mainly for the epic gallop down the mountain side)

Malcolm

Two Hands

Moulin Rouge!

Dirty Deeds (2002) is the last Australian movie i've seen... not very patriotic of me‼

Of course I forgot The Man From Snoy River. Exactly for the same reasons as Iblis, although I have to add Tom Burlinson was dam cute in those days.

I actually watched Mad Max 1 and 2 on the weekend. No 2 was definitely better. Next I gotta watch the tina turner in the max max 3 movie!

Also I just remembered another movie that impressed me when I was a kid. It was something about a big truck...sort like mad max i think. I will try find the name.

EDIT: Now I remember. It was called "Battletruck". The reviews say it was a lame copy of Mad Max 2. All I remember is a big truck thundering down the road. I would like to see if I can get it on dvd.

Beautiful Kate and Beautiful were both fantastic recent aussie films.

I saw "Boy" the the film festival on the weekend, it's not aussie but worth a look, highest grossing NZ film ever, worth it just to see the after credits scene, it's wonderfully entertaining.

Maybe we should start a "best kiwi film" thread!

Oh I'd put LOTR on top!

The sequel was "what become's of the broken hearted" and although it was not as great as the first film I still go alot out of it and thought it a fine film.

There is a film coming out called "The Dream Children". I know director and some of cast but it looks as though it might be a winner. With all the heart that went into it it certainly deserves to be. Worth googling.

I watched News Front again and it looks even better than on its first release. It gives a superb insight into the old news reels we saw in the movies in the old days. The images are wonderful not to mention beautiful direction and flawless acting.

It was a huge hit on its first release and in many ways rejuvenate the Australian film industry arguably even more than Hanging Rock. It has stood the test of time remarkably.

Another great one is Wake IN Fright but be warned that kangaroo hunt is still very hard to watch.
