New To Melbourne... Suggestions On How To Meet People

Hi all!



I've recently (as in, last week!!) moved to East Melbourne from interstate because of work, and I've found myself in the odd position of wondering how I'm going to 'get myself out there' and make friends!



After reading the forum, it seems that quite a few people here are new to Melb, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me? I'm 27 and all on my own over here <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

None of the new people tend to stick around and regularly post here, Narinna. All the regular posters are long lived Melbournians (with the occasional Queenslander thrown in for good measure).



Depending on the type of people you actually want to meet, clubs and classes of sorts are popular places to meet like minded people... random people can be met through entertainment venues like pubs and bars.



Just be friendly when you are out and about and you'll find that a good attitude will attract new friends.

yea i'd definitely recommend a gym class - pilates etc or a hobby class, whatever you're into like photography, art, woodwork, gardening.. that way you'll meet people with similar interests too! there are generally tafes or community centres around that run hobby classes =)

or if you're into team sports - join a local team!

I would so get involved if i was located in Melbourne... played as GA in Grade 5.

Also try www.meetup.com ... it's a website that lists a TON of social groups .... it's awesome!
