It MUST happen. I am quite surprised at the coalitions reaction, it is very UNLIBERAL. If we dont get behind this we will be lagging behind.

I only recently became pro NBN when I realised that cable is not optic fibre! Was I the only one that thought they were the same thing?

I wont go there.

In the end everything stays the same. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer and none of them will ever let me marry my same sex partner of forty years.

Politics always gets me into trouble on these sites.

Would be kinda crazy if they decommissioned the copper lines and later found out it was actually better than optic fibre! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Well Optic fibre has been there for quite some time now and i definitely better than copper. Its cheaper, more flexible and can carry tones more information.

There are so many technologies that exist that can provide broadband and each has its own pros and cons.

Did you know that there are even plans to have broadband over power lines?

I think there will be more wireless technologies in the Future rather than underground cables. The LASER broadband you are talking about is a wireless technology as w ell.

Cost for fibre broadband is pretty much going to be the same as it is now for Copper. Ofcourse you always pay more something thats is new initially.
