The latest pols reveal the dimming and with a backroom of poll driven union hucksters, that spells extremely testing times for Bill.

 

Personally, Bill is more acceptable than his deputy - and that's his only redeeming feature to me.

I wish for a stronger economy Aloy. That won't happen unless the people are confident enough to spend their dollars.

 

This so called "lefty" budget is the one we should've had last year.  The small business tax breaks and better consumer confidence would've seen the country in a much better position today IMO.

 

Additionally, addressing the exorbitant cost of child care is far more important than paid maternal leave.

 

While last year's budget scored a zero for me, this one scores an 8/10 Smile

If the opposition parties can gain political mileage from blocking policy, they'll do it.

 

But this time around I don't think it will happen, negotiations, yes, outright blocking? Probably not.

You wish for a stronger economy - so do I naturally - after 6 years of economic destruction one suspects that more than 2 years will be required to repair - particularly given a recalcitrant Senate.

 

Happily one can already see signs of returning confidence.

 

Your score of 8 for a watered down budget flies somewhat in the face of your expressed desire for improving the economy - IMO!!

 

Nevertheless any moves toward repair is a good thing.

No Carbon Tax? No Mining tax? PPL anyone? That's $12 billion gone right there.

How do you reduce deficit when the economy is weak, terms of trade are down and nominal growth is at a 50 year low?

You don't. It's a bit like saying your shop is running sales losses so you stop advertising to save money. It's a recipe for fail bacause it doesn't work like that.

Just as you need to expand the business you need to facilitate economic growth.

Both sides of politics agree on this, which is why the Coalition are now handing down Labor budgets Smile

Tying ones increasingly diminishing political future to what should not be a political question would appear to be an attempt to divert attention to his perceived lack of good policy - hey he is still tied to ALP policies that were comprehensively rejected at the last election.

Abbotts most effective and loyal opposition comes from inside his own party and cabinet.
