#46910 Dtv Thread

Posted by PZ. on 08 August 2017 - 11:57 AM

Well I'll just offer a friendly suggestion for anyone reading this... as it appears all content will be migrated to another website it might be prudent to delete any private / sensitive content from your PM system just in case it gets exposed by some unforeseen error. I'm only saying this because according to Whirlpool someone accidentally got someone else's login after they changed servers. How that's possible I don't know hence the warning.

Just a thought.

And here's another one and it's just my view.

The admin said "I trust that you will understand that this decision is for the best long term interests of DTV and StereoNET."

Well not really. I understood the original point of the takeover was to save DTV, not rape it and strip away its identity.

The best long term interest of DTV is to hand it over to someone who actually gives enough of a stuff about its historical content to keep it online as DTV Forum, just like it was for ten years or more. You can just about guarantee that all the bits that gave the site its character including the OT section will eventually disappear with the end result being a larger membership for StereoNet and no trace of DTV whatsoever.

Still, that's council planing and amalgamation for you...

"The process will take slightly less than two of your earth minutes, thankyou very much" :)

That was a monumental game - no shame on either side IMO - petty criticisms of the man in the middle covered in dirt and racked with fatigue and pain by armchair critics is wearying.

A noble contest should not be reduced to a soap opera by little people.

I was particularly irritated by Andrew Johns (a little man) spray at the NSW team.

hello? they gave it their best shot, they won the first game comprehensively but they were playing against an opposition equally committed to success and equally disappointed with the alternative.

For me Andrew Johns is an excellent example of poor leadership - instead of encouraging, he damns.

I can't imagine how that will encourage those players to lift the huge step they need to be even competitive in the final game.

They deserve better.

This culture of criticism was to be seen after the first game when demands were made to sack the Maroons coach - it's a universal culture.

Maybe those kinds of critcs should be forced to read their malodorous remarks for the next seven days in the light of the Maroons win under that same coach?

#46155 Wild Cherry Cafe

Posted by Jayesse on 23 February 2017 - 09:11 AM

Green Guy & others,
My father bought the Wild Cherry in 1967, until its closure. I worked with him from 1978, cooking copious amounts of Roast Lamb, apple pies, steamed puddings, lambs fry & bacon etc. The effeminate gentleman you referred to was Donnie McLoud. He was an old school chum of my mother. The had gone to school in Essendon. The reason the cafe closed was due to the T & G. They owned the building & for the last 3 years we were there, they refused to renew our lease passed 1 year, so we had to close.
The Cherry had an interesting history. It was, allegedly, started by two sisters from the Dandenong Ranges. The second owners were my late God Mother & her husband, Ernie & Audrey Ruddick.
Third owner was Sydney Talbot. My father James Webster & his business partner Bill Ruddick (son of Ernie & stepson of Audrey) purchased it & subsequently, dad bought Bill"s share.
My mother was co-owner of Churinga Restaurant in the Dandenong Ranges, opposite the William Ricketts Sanctuary. She was also the President of the Save the Regent Theatre group, who were ultimately victorious.
I can't tell you how chuffed I am to find that people still remember the Cherry. I oftened thought I should write a book on the place. We had some very interesting & 'original' regular customers. Many were single people who had lost loved ones in WWII, worked in the city & generally lived alone.
My Father died about 6 years ago, & I still miss him every day.

#41071 A New Labor Government

Posted by green guy on 02 December 2014 - 09:22 AM

Congratulations to our new Labor leader Daniel Andrews and thank you Dennis Napthine for your service.

I think the Napthine Government had much merit. Personally I dont have great problems with the East West link but as I always say the public have spoken.

I must say I was surprised how big the swing was.

Brumby was a hard act to follow leaving the state with a triple A rating and to his credit Napthine after the lack luster performance of Ted B showed promise.

There were teething stages with myki and I never understood why they did not choose a model that had been working. Singapore however had much much bigger problems until they finally got it right as did the UK. Bth UK and Singapore ended up with a good system. Having lived in both countries they do have their problems too.

I believe Napthine got the Myki  running well. Well done.

I actually voted Liberals this time but I m impressed with the ideas of the new Government.

The real legacy of Brumby is the desalination plant which will prove a great asset if it is up and running. I believe the latest evidence on climate change ad future droughts is alarming. Dont fall for the lies. The Desal plant if well managed will be a great asset.

I do wish both parties would get together and improve the senate. We are so over these ridiculous parties like the shooters party having power.

Personally I am quite happy to have the Liberals, Nationals Labor and of course my own party The Greens.

WE did very well this round.

I know a couple of the Liberal candidates and they are great friends of mine. They too are thanked for their contribution.

Hi Mello Y.
I guess 8 out of 10 for trying!
I guess I shall just keep trying!

It's hardly worth the effort Peter, basically it was an exercise in cyber trolling - some malicious posters raised personal attacking to an artform - the bulk of forum users let it go unchallenged - moderators stepped in and stopped it by throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

It rates no further investigation.

Hmmmmm, Aloy. . .
How was it possible for a thread DTV cause the moderator any angst?
Surely TV is a non angst subject.

#40256 Dtv Thread

Posted by Aloysius on 13 August 2014 - 08:21 AM

Hi Peter,

You want life - that's really great!

The opportunity to leave behind a dying DTV forum is lovely.

Malcontents are internal parasites, unless treated they lead to disease and death.

I saw some last night on Insight, wisdom and considered opinion being beliittled and sneered at by clever but bigoted extreme people.

Clearly, as some of those present said, it's not an issue of religion that they face, it's an issue of naked power seeking by groups quite happy to use the guise of religion.

This of course is not new!!!

Oooops got serious there, but you probably understand what I mean.

A minority on the DTV forums behaved badly enough to cause the Moderators to take unnecessarily vigorous action - penalising all to control the few.

Hence the forum refugees that may bring more life to another forum.
