Moving To Melbourne
#1
Hi

My hubby and I are moving to Melbourne from Ireland in the new year for a few years, as we are trying to get ready for our move I have a few questions:
  • Should we bring stuff with us as it seems oz is quite expensive? i.e. furniture, tv, bed linen, towels, utensils etc.
  • Are houses usually rented in Melbourne with furniture?
  • Is there a particular area that the Irish would live?
  • Is Health Insurance expensive or how would we be covered with a state sponsored visa?
Any other tips you may have would be really appreciated.

Thanks

It might be a bit more costly to ship the furniture and such over to aus, you're looking at about $700 for a queen size bed of decent quality, towels probably $10-30 each, not sure about crockery and such to be honest, I'd suggest linen's and maybe utensils to give you a 'unique' feel to the house (so you don't get stuck with aussie stuff, it's nice to have imported things in the home <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> )

Depends where you're looking for rental properties, some come fully furnished if you look at online sites, might get lucky with some real estate places if you enquire, Live anywhere you want lol, maybe search google for irish communities in melbourne? No info on the health insurance sorry, I pay like $30 a month for mine and can't quote you what it covers me for haha embarrassing.

I can't really suggest any other tips as im quite new to melb myself.. just be yourselves and all the best <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
