Melbourne Zoo
#1
Melbourne zoo seems to always be improving. I have been to zoos all over the world and Melbourne is way up there as one of the best.

One rather sad feature in an other wise great zoo was the baboon enclosure. These wonderful creatures have an incredibly complex social structure but they were exhibited in an enclosure with hard concrete although there were attempts to enrich their lives with hanging rope etc.

I am delighted to report they are now in a beautiful large enclosure with many enrichment activities for these beautiful intelligent animals complete with lush grass and vegetation. As a zoo member I was told by one of my friends who works as a guide it took them a while to work out what the grass was as they had spent a life time walking on concrete.

The seal and penguin enclosure is also quite outstanding as well.

As a zoo member you can go as often as you like. I go several times a year as I need walking exercise and the zoo is a perfect place to get your walking done and contribute to the zoos very impressive conservation program.

Amazing zoo, up there with the best of them in the world. Love the new Orangutan enclosure, and of course, Mali (new baby elephant).

Great value with kids U16 free, and fun for the family in beautiful garden surrounds.

Melb Zoo is a great place and its focus is moving more and more towards conservation and breeding programmes of those animals in need which is what a zoo should be all about. Its getting towards that time of year when the zoo has lots of events on so keep an eye out on their website.

The great thing about being a member of the zoo is you get access to Werribee Open Range Zoo and Healesville as well. A bargain.

My sister, baby niece and toddler niece and I recently had a great day at the Werribee Zoo. Very child and pram friendly (although we did not attempt the bus safari). The hippos and meerkats were favourites with the toddler. It is free entry everyday for kids under 4 years old. We used our Entertainment Book to get a 2:1 adult entry deal. However, I'm thinking of becoming a Zoos Victoria member to give them support, and, as Green Guy says, allows multiple entry.

I've also done overnight stays at both Werribee and Melbourne Zoos and they were fantastic - terrific fun!
