Seeking Cat People
#1
Greetings,

I am looking to meet people around my age who have similar values and interests to me. I was born in Melbourne, and have found the lack of cat lovers in today's youth disconcerting. :3

I am a 22 year old, mostly Chinese girl. Due to having a somewhat quiet personality, I don't speak much as part of groups, and don't get out often. I do not go near bars, clubs or alcohol, and prefer to talk with a friend or two at lunch. Unfortunately, I have found that very few people in my age group feel the same way or have the same traditional outlook on life as me. (But that's not really saying much, considering the above statement about being a shut-in. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />)

Although I am not that much of a gamer myself, I enjoy watching others play games. I would consider hanging around game stores, but regular players would probably find that a bit uncomfortable, and I also have no sense of direction. Plus, I imagine it would be an awkward experience for all involved.

In a perfect world, I would like to find someone to give me a few pointers on how to play the violin. While playing card games. On motorcycles. Bonus points if you were a Pokemon kid, and if you understood the reference I made.

I reckon cats are great, I love dogs too... but I respect cats more because they're not so subservient as dogs.

I'm a guy and too old for you and I drink alcohol sometimes... actually I'm hungover now writing this o_O Anyway I just wanted to support the idea that cats are cool and I hope you find some friends that have the same interests :-)

Nice to know! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

(This is funny because I just passed a drunk guy sauntering around at the train station, with just enough coordination left to carry his carton of booze.)

I like how you can still type pretty well while under the influence.

The other day I went to my local pet store, standing in front of the glass enclosure gazing at this beautiful creature with a nice coat of fur and a look that William Shakespeare could have written a poem about.

The enthusiastic lady owner with a quirky dress and an overwhelming fragrance of sweet summer approached, gently smile she asked "Can I help you dear?" I pointed at the animal that I have been admiring for last thirty minutes and said "I love to buy that Cat, how much does she cost?".

She chuckle then lost her composure and let out a multiple of hahahas! She gaze directly at me while wiping little droplet of tears off the corner of her eye and said "How about I give you this one for half price" then proceed to point at a little Dog.

Not sure why she would want to give me a dog for half price when I want to buy a cat, I clamorously said but I want this cat. She stepped forward and gently whispers "It’s a baby rabbit"

KaroCat I’m sure there are a lot you can tell me about cat if we ever to meet. I can’t play the Violin but definitely can hold "a hand" and ride the motorcycle well =)

Hii !!

I'm a 21 year old girl in a similar situation (I think!) ~ anywho I'm a non-drinker, non-smoker, cat girl (I like cats too) who steers clear of all that clubbing and nonsense that people our age are into (sooo doesn't appeal to me). I'm actually learning violin right now (I have been for about two months?) and gosh it's tricky! Oh and I'm kind of teaching myself ocarina too (and no, I've never played zelda) lol ~ and I am still a pokemon kid, prob always will be :$

Lol @koracat, I wasn't drunk though, just hung over... and although I could probably type if I was drunk, I don't think I could use the 'swype' interface on this galaxy s2 if I was drunk.

I'm not a destitute bum, I'm a software engineer who plays classical guitar and does prime number research for fun and I left high school with the top marks in my school <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />, anyway besides all that I actually don't like the drinking culture in Australia but have found it very hard to fit in while having anxiety and depression... drinking alot makes it possible to become social... but at a cost to ones health... if you can avoid it you are wise to ;-) One day alcohol will be seen for the drug that it is, like cigarettes are now.

One person likes cats. Yay! :3

I feel it's not important to try and fit in with people who are different from who you actually are. So as a result, I never got into 'social' things like drinking or clubbing.

Then again, I feel pretty happy despite living like a hermit... Most people seem to hate being alone.

I know there's a negative stigma around cat ladies (as people only tend to see the crazy ones), but I still think there's nothing in the world quite like the company of a good cat. Surely, I can't be the only one who thinks so?

Music is kind of under rated these days too... I should pick up the violin shaped object I got and try it out. :>

I would love to have a pet, I live alone and don't seem to fit in to the cruel superficial world outside my flat. I'm a 35 yr old guy and although I've had serious relationships in the past, I've been single for ages now and it does get a bit lonely even though I generally enjoy my own company. I learnt earlier this year that sharing good experiences makes happiness so much better... I found that when I was standing all alone on beautiful beach and a pod of dolphins played next to me and the fresh air and warm sun... It was so amazing and I felt happy and so connected with everything... But then soon after that I felt something deep about wanting to share the moment with someone.

Anyway I can't have a cat in this rented flat so I better find the courage to make some friends... Or buy a gold fish lol

Hi!!

I'm a 22yo international student from China. I reeeeally like cats and I have one in my home. I've been in Melbourne for only 2 weeks, and I hope to meet new people.

I'll appreciate if you could recommend some places for me to visit, or just show me around hereSmile

Oh dear.

I strongly suggest you find a rental place which allows pets - real companion animals like a cat or dog. I have seen them make such a huge difference in people's lives, especially if the said people didn't grow up with nice pets. Pro-pet rentals are rare though, especially for dogs. Cats are pretty clean and just need any carpets steam cleaned before you move out. They're very popular with crazy hermits, I guess they are also a bit misunderstood and like their own company.

I guess we always have to remember that it's better to be single than to be with the wrong person, but until/if you find them there's always hanging out with friends and cats. Or dogs. Honestly I don't see that big of a difference, other than not having heated discussions in English or eating out at new places. Maybe it's to do with being an older age. When I look out to sea or up at the sky, I just enjoy the sights and sometimes wonder what the cat is doing back home. Probably sleeping. Wish I were a cat.

I find it gets harder and harder to make new friends as you get older. Not having much in common with people, work, families, relocation. I'm not sure that most people realise who their 'friends' really are. If I go through the people I know, I'd say I kind of know two of them. One I don't talk to much anymore, the other with ulterior motives. If I was stricter on my definition of friendship, the core truth would be that I have none. But it doesn't bother me that much, except that nobody would notice if I dropped off the earth. Kitty needs someone to feed and love it. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

Don't get a goldfish unless you really know what you're doing - they die really, really fast. And then you have to replace them every few months. :<
