Addy,

I am interested in being a model if you were still looking. I enjoy photography as well but don't really participate in it as much.

Quote:Hello all photographers.
I am looking for advice.
I am thinking about buying a new "bridge" camera. (Don't want or need a DSLR).
Will spend about $200. (Yeah I know that's not much)!
$200 is actually a lot in the second hand market.

Quote:Specs are about:
15-20 megapixals.
Uses 4 AA batteries.
Any camera with a small sensor will have big problems with big megapixels.. Probably best to find something around 10 megapixels and that'd give you the best picture quality on balance. AA batteries may not be a good idea IMO as the batteries may be chewed up very quickly.

See if you can get a Panasonic camera for that price range (In FX or FZ series).. You should be able to if you're lucky enough.

Also, if you have a new smart phone give that a shot too. Once you know what the phone camera can do (and can't) you'd be amazed at the quality of the pics modern phones can do. And that'd not cost you anything extra.

yes but sometimes megapixels as a marketing tool so they just gives you lots of pixels even though the sensor is tiny.

i did read the other day a good camera phone is the nokia lumia 1020. but it is out of price range.

what glen said. The web will give you the more technical reasons why this is so.. In a simplistic way of saying things - there is a balance between sensor size and the mega pixel (dividing the area of the sensor into a grid array). High ISO = more sensitive, and thus more current. This higher current introduce a lot of digital noise, which can smear details. For a P&S camera, around 10 to 15 MP is the right balance. Anything higher and the things you can do are somewhat limited... Not really a problem with good photography skills though.

Love the Mahas. Nowadays I stopped using the Powerex batts and moved on to Sanyo Eneloop (still with Maha charger)... The Sanyos are not as high mAh wise but they don't discharge as quickly as Powerex do so still works out ahead.

Regarding the Pentax X5.. Do see if you can try it physically and see if you like the feel of it in your hands (try operating it).. If memory serves if you zoom to max, that camera really doesn't focus that quickly.. See if that bothers you or not.. If it doesn't, go right ahead Smile..

At the end of the day, it's really the person behind the camera that counts, not the equipment. Happy shooting Smile
