If you have never seen this musical classic the current Melbourne production is equal to any production in the world. Its staged at the stunningly beautiful Regent Theater one of Melbourne's most loved land marks.

The story is pretty well known but the real star of the show is one of the catchiest scores ever written. This is very rare in a musical but Annie has had many incarnations and its one of those shows that stays in your heart.Every song is a winner so much so that the audience applauds each time one of the standards is played in the overture.

Of course Annie is pure corn but its sublime corn. It almost defies criticism. I mean the show has all the classic ingredients, a great score, kids, a happy ending and of course a dog.

Annie makes your nationalistic heart swell with pride because the ALL Australian cast are superb.

As Daddy Warbucks Anthony Warlowe is in perfect voice and he is co starring with one of Australia's living treasures the wonderful Nancye Hayes as the evil MIss Harrigan. Oh did I mention, the show has a nasty villain who gets her come uppence.

EVery body's favorite nasty television judge Todd McKenny is perfect as Rooster and he dances up a storm. When he is on stage you can't look any where else.

I waited until Alan Jones, the Sydney shock jock left the show before seeing it. Sorry there is no way I could pay to see this man on stage as I detest everything he stands for. I am delighted to report the much loved Bert Newton has taken the role and he does a fine job.

Julie Lee Goodwin plays Grace and makes this cloyingly sentimental role work beautifully, she has a gorgeous voice!

This is a fine production. The kids are great and Annie the day I saw it was played sweetly by Caitlin Marks.

The production values are tops.

Tomorrow is one of those songs that annoys the hell out of you. It may not be a great song but try getting the dam thing out of your head.

Annie is a great way to spend your time in Melbourne.
