Melbourne New Year's Eve - 6 free parties on Yarra

New year's eve in Melbourne is going to be a blast, with 2 free fireworks shows and 6 party sites along the Yarra River. The entertainment venues include:
  • Alexandra Gardens

  • Birrarung Marr

  • Federation Square

  • waterfront at Southgate Arts & Leisure Precinct

  • NewQuay

  • Waterfront City, Docklands

Fireworks

There will be a special family fireworks display at 9.15pm, followed by the midnight fireworks spectacular which can be seen at any of the six entertainment venues mentioned above.

Alexandra Gardens

Alexandra Gardens will be the centre of family fun with a mix of children's entertainment and contemporary family music. There will also be a selection of family movies on offer.

Birrarung Marr

Birrarung Marr will be home to the young, with a great selection of up and coming battle of the bands talent and movies.

Federation Square

Federation Square will present great live bands on the main stage including headlining funk and reggae band Bomba. There will also be a mass audience Bollywood dance lesson.

Southgate Arts & Leisure Precinct

The theme at Southgate is Masquerade: Be a Star! Roving performers from the humorous to the acrobatic will create a festive atmosphere of celebration.

NewQuay

Latin dancers and music will bring the promenade to life, along with a spectacular light show.

Waterfront City, Docklands

This year, Waterfront City at the Docklands will also present free family entertainment and rock bands.

Transport

Melbourne's public transport network will be free from 3pm on New Year's Eve.

Trams and trains will run for free until first services on Monday 1 January.

NightRider bus services will be running from Collins Street every half hour from 12.30am.

No Alcohol

All New Year's Eve precincts are alcohol free zones.

There will be a significantly increased police presence to ensure everyone can enjoy the celebrations safely.
