Organic food buys
#1
I've just joined melbourne chat and was surprised to find nothing on organic food and living so i thought I'd start the topic!!

Best Organic meal I've had lately was at the cafe PEA @ 101, in Richmond. (it's 101 Swan St.. hence the name) and that was fantastic.. It's a new place so it's still finding its groove, but the meal was yum <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' /> and the service terrific! Highly recommended!

Anyone been? Know of any other cool organic joints around Melbourne? I've become addicted to organics.. oh the irony.. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

hi banterpigeon and welcome to the forum! I am guessing that the Vegie Bar in Brunswick St, Fitzroy would be organic but I am not sure. They are certainly 100% vegetarian.

Is Cafe PEA a vegetarian place?

They're not 100 vegetarian, but they do have vegan dishes. They're mainly an organic place. i've tried Vegie bar (was there yesterday) and they're also pretty good.. but they've been around for a while now.. so I feel like i've had their menu over and over.

I know there are some organic food shops like Organic Wholefoods I think they're called and they're in Brunswick and Collinwood and they have little cafe's attatched to them.. but I wasn't impressed with thier meals.

But Pea @ 101 in Richmond had really incredible meals plus they're open for dinner so I'll go check it out one night and then I'll post my experience later.

Any other places around town that I should be checking out? <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' />

Hi

Southside, there are a couple of good places -

Glo Health in Elsternwick (main strip of Glenhuntly Road) has some really nice organic salids, sweets, coffee etc. plus produce for sale. At first I thought they were expensive but when you consider most of it's organic it's pretty good.

There's also a health food store opposite Windsor station which do some amazing pastries and sandwiches and so on. Not sure if the food's organic but the coffee definitely is.

hello there, We are a small organic veggie box company working with farmers from the local community directly. Cutting out the middle men and providing cheap alternatives for organic veggies.

all veggies are locally sourced within 150km's of Melbourne and are organically certified.

boxes come in a range of sizes $30, $35 or $40. And can either be collected from Brunswick east on a Saturday or alternatively delivered locally for a additional $10. (email for other prices on delivery)

Each box has a great selection of in season veggies and occasional fruit and show amazing value for money. And all veggies come with free dirt and the occasional bug. This is the real deal, un washed and un polished.

No time commitment, just pay for the box you want a week in advance. very simple. Each box will come with a $5 deposit thats refunded when you return it, or alternatively pack it into bags at our place.

also we stock, bio dynamic locally produced dairy

yoghurt $10 a kg (+ $1 deposit on the container)

bath milk $ 2.50 a litre (+ $1 deposit on the container)

fetta $ 10 for 300 g

cream $4 for 330 ml (+ $1 deposit on the container)

Fresh bio dynamic eggs $8 a dozen

The included photograph is a example of a $30 box. The boxes will vary from week to week in what they have , this is because it is picked fresh and not stored or transported for weeks.
