Melbourne supercar - funding sought

A supercar prototype built in a Warragul workshop could soon be on the market. The designer and owner, Matt Thomas, plans to sell his prototype of the "Joss Supercar" so that he can raise sufficient funds to bring the car into mass production.

Be warned however that the prototype does not meet Australian design requirements and cannot be driven on public roads. Mr Thomas still needs to secure funding so that the car can be brought up to production standards. He hopes to gain some recognition for the car by developing a Le Mans racer version of the Joss that will be built for the famous 24-hour endurance race. It is hoped that a lot more financial support will result.

The production model is expected to cost $450,000-$500,000 and is planned to have a Melbourne-built 6.8-litre fuel-injected alloy V8 engine. The engine would provide about 350 kW and 650 Nm and would propel the Joss from 0-100 km/h in around 3 seconds.

In testing several years ago at Calder Park Raceway, the prototype's 6.1-litre engine pushed the Joss' 940 kg from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds.

If you would like to "test drive" the Joss you can do so on the XBOX360 playing the game Project Gotham Racing 3.
