Holden Caprice wins Autocar Middle East award

The Australian-built Holden Caprice has been named the best luxury car in the Middle East! The car, badged as a Chevrolet, won the 2006 Autocar Middle East Award. Close competitors included the Volvo S80 and the Lexus ES350.

Holden's export manager Emma Pinwill said that the award was an important milestone for the company's export program to the Middle East.

In 2005 Holden shipped more than 30,000 cars to the various Middle East countries. Caprice models are exported to the Middle East and to New Zealand. Last year they were also exported to China and Korea.

The Caprice is manufactured at Holden's vehicle manufacturing facility which is located on a 123 hectare site at Elizabeth, South Australia. It produces the Holden Caprice and Statesman, Calais, Berlina, the Commodore range of sedans and wagons, Monaro coupe, (all in right and left-hand drive configurations), Adventra, Ute, Crewman, Crewman Cross 6, Cross 8, One Tonner and One Tonner Cross 6.

The Elizabeth plant employs more than 5,800 people and is one of the most flexible automotive operations in the world.

The Chevrolet Caprice Royale was also named Saudi Arabia's Car Of The Year back in 2004.
