FINA World Swimming Championships - Opening Ceremony

Three of the biggest names in Australian music will headline the Opening Ceremony for the FINA World Swimming Championships.

Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Shannon Noll and Christine Anu will join 320 singers from the Australian Girls Choir and the National Boys Choir for the two-hour Opening Ceremony for the 16-day international aquatics championships.

The FINA World Swimming Championships has a forecast budget of $81 million and will be broadcast to an estimated audience of one billion people around the globe – a bigger television audience than the Commonwealth Games.

Minister for Sport and Recreation James Merlino said the Opening Ceremony would also feature a special tribute to Australian swimming legend Ian Thorpe.

Members of Australian aquatic clubs can buy great tickets for just $25.

Melbourne 2007 Chairman Mr Tony Beddison AO urged families to come along to the Opening Ceremony for a memorable and affordable night's entertainment.

Family tickets are on sale for $100 for a family of four – great value for a night filled with stars in and out of the pool.

Tickets to the Opening Ceremony are on sale at Ticketek. Go to www.ticketek.com.au or phone 1300 136 494. Category B tickets cost $48 and Category A tickets for $68.

Aquatic club members should go to http://www.melbourne2007.com.au and following the ticketing links for the special offer.

No

it won't be on

Which is really stupid, the coverage of the whole championship, it only starts at about 11 on 9, and not even every night

and this is the event that is meant to be reaching a billion viewers...

Yes you are right - I'm watching it now - it's really stupid but it's also lame and wanky, almost Sydney-esque. Actually it reminds me of the Melbourne Commonwealth Games coverage. Astraya, this is you and we never forget the didgeridoo.

p.s Izzy you shoulda mimed.

oh well i guess it would have calmed the nerves if it was just performing in front of a few friends and family! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> hahaha looks like you should have done the commonwealth games instead. i think you would have had a good crowd then!

cheers, glen
