Hi mel-visitor,
Skybus Super Shuttle
The skybus is the best option and it runs 24 hours per day! It takes you from the airport to the
Skybus city terminal located at Southern Cross Station, Melbourne, near the corner of Little Bourke Street and Spencer Street.
Skybus operates 7 days a week, including public holidays. It's a 20 minute average trip between airport and city.
Skybus departs
every 10-15 minutes between 06:00 and 21:30 and half hourly or hourly at other times.
You can get the full timetable from the company website (see link below).
Are you sure it runs 24 hours per day?
YES! The silly company website is confusing because it mentions another service called the "Hotel Shuttle Service" and that DOES have limited hours of operation. The purpose of the "hotel shuttle" is to take you to your hotel. But if its not running then you can easily catch a taxi from the the terminal at Southern Cross Station and it won't cost much to get to your hotel (presuming you are staying somewhere in the city).
You can get more info at the website:
www.skybus.com.au/
Skybus will cost you $15 one-way or $24 return (2 trips).
TAXI OPTION
If you don't like buses you can catch a taxi from the airport all the way to the city but that will cost a fair bit. Also, be warned that there is a $2.00 taxi parking fee that applies at Melbourne Airport. This $2.00 per vehicle fee only applies to passengers leaving Melbourne Airport from a taxi rank. A $3.00 per vehicle pre-booked taxi fee also applies for passengers catching a limousines or taxis from the Premium Parking area opposite T2.
Hope that info helps you!
Cheers, Glen
