Hi My name is Debbie and I am looking to emigrate after years of cold summers and wet winters. I have just had enough! Just a little advice if you don't mind. How long would you reckon I should put aside to stay in Melbourne to get a good feel of the place? A Week, a month or longer I have a hubbie and 3 kids so could stay up to 6 weeks if required but have no idea what kind of time frame I should leave to look at things like property and job vacancies.
Any advice would be appreciated.

hi debbie. it depends on if you wish to buy a house or just rent. Buying a house takes quite a while and property settlement usually takes 60 to 90 days! arranging a rental property is much quicker I think.
If you just want to see the sights then I guess a couple of weeks would be enough.
If on the other hand, you want to get a sense for what the people in Melbourne are like, I guess it would take a lot longer. I think that people in Melbourne (probably like those in London) are fairly independent people and it might therefore take a while to really get to know people and make friends etc.
You can do a lot of the job searching and rental property investigation online before you get here and make appointments before you get here to inspect property, job interviews etc.
Cheers, Glen
