Population Of Melbourne

Could anyone let me know the population of melbourne please? I can't seem to find reliable information.

the current Australian population is approx 20,800,000.



and Melbourne's population is approx 3,700,000.

No way people can figure out the exact population especially when people travel here and don't return back home or don't register births. Doubt people are keeping track of deaths and could be years before someone finds them dead. Many reasons why these numbers are flawed... Estimates are better than nothing.
