Melbourne Fauna Concerns ;)
#1
Hi there!

Listen, ppl I gotta move to Mel sooner or later…..totally in love with da CITY!!! Mmm….best place to live and pleasant piece of world to die…))) ha! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

But not so long ago I came across that #### tv program on National Geographic channel ‘bout all those terrible bugs, spiders and all those lousy insects!!! God…I really want to live long and have no intentions to die from ###### brass spider poisoning!!! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/kosa.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':kosa:' />

Well the point is…

Is there any statistics of how many human…ok…city inhabitants die from being stinged by some sort of poison insect? How many kids are among those poor ppl?

Thanks in advance)))) <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

ok i have answers to all your questions. just read these pages and you should feel a lot better about coming to melbourne!!!!

Here is a worthy quote:

Quote:"Since the introduction of antivenom, there have been no recorded deaths in Australia from a confirmed spider bite."

Spiders

White Tail Spiders

European Wasps

I have included a page on European Wasps since I figured you won't be scared of spiders anymore so you may need something new to worry about <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> hehehehe Let us know if you need more info.

We don't have funnel web spiders in Melbourne. At least as far as I know <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':kosa:' /> so we really only have white tail spiders and redback spiders that can do any harm. White tails are pretty dumb and usually end up on the ceiling or wall in evening so they are easy to kill (but mind they are quick little buggers). You will barely ever see red backs unless you spend a lot of time in the garden.

Jeeeez, Glen…..is there anything in the world you don’t know about? <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Thank you ever soooo much!!! I gotta study this given info carefully and start training myself in killing spiders)) But still dunno what weapon to chose: my slipper, rolled up magazine or real gun…. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':kosa:' />

And as you happen to know everything about everything…do you know some receipt for antivenom solution in order to mix it up in your home condition))) just in case…to store it in you fridge …while waiting for emergency))) …or for the end(((

Ok I’m kidding))) I’m a big girl and hope to cope with this phobia someday…thanks to ya!! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />

And what about cockroaches? Is it a problem? <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

we have some cockroaches. they get about 3 centremetres long so they are not exactly huge. you can try to keep the buggers out of the house but they are skinny and manage to get through very small openings. they are just a nuisance. i never heard of anyone getting sick due to cockrochaes. they are easy to kill. a slipper would do perfectly!!! i might see 1 or 2 per week. they all get "slippered" <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> hahaha

for the spiders, you can use inspect spray to stun them, if they are on the ceiling. and then slipper them when they land! easy work. some might even consider this fun. i wonder if they are any spider killing clubs? <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':kosa:' /> could be popular!

let us know if you need any more info. you haven't asked about the snakes yet! hahaha

cheers, glen

I know roaches not to be dangerous! They are simply disgusting! That’s all.

there is a few rats at flinders street station and i also saw a couple in the treasury gardens. but you have to look very hard to spot them! most people would not even know they were there <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> after reading the rats of NIHM when i was a kid i find it hard to hate rats.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Secret_of_NIMH

but i certainly don't want to cuddle them either!! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':kosa:' />

the insect spray i was referring to is for killing insects but it can be handy to knock them off the ceiling as well. brands like mortein are popular.

http://www.mortein.com.au/mortein_frameset.html

i believe the cockroaches in Queensland are MASSIVE but I have never seen them so I don't really know if it is true. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' /> best to stick with melbourne!!!

cheers, glen
