Fancy A Bit Of Detective Work?
#1
Hi All. Sorry but I'm a bit of an intruder here. My name is Andy and I'm in Sheffield, England. I need to solve a 30 odd year old mystery and I wondered if you could help. In 1972 my wife's brother came over to settle in Melbourne. He was 22 at the time and came with his new wife. He had been in a bit of bother with the law as a teenager and decided to turn over a new leaf in a new place. On June 10th 1974 he was dead. My wifes family got to know next to nothing about how and why except for some ( not very clear) info from the Salvation Army. His name was Graham, his wifes name was Dianne and a daughter was born in Melbourne called Julie. My father in law, recently went to his grave not knowing the facts and never having had any contact with his granddaughter. It would be nice if my mother in law and Grahams siblings did not suffer the same fate. Obviously the granddaughter may not want to be contacted (even if she's still there) and this I respect. Every method tried at this end over the years, to try and discover his fate has hit a brick wall. I'll try and get some more bits of info to tell you. Any help would be most appreciated. If I can help anyone with anything over here, just ask.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hi glen and thanks. This old business is quite complicated. My wifes family are not the brightest stars in the sky if you know what I mean. To be honest, most are decent folk but can't read or write well. I am comparitively new on the scene as we've both been married before. Since the father in law died, the question of Graham has come up again. It was impossible to talk about him when the old man was around as he would get inconsolable. I think there was problems with Grahams marriage and little or no information or documents were obtained. This is really my first shot at having a look at the situation, I'm just dipping my toes in the water at the moment. I'll try and find out some more and come back. cheers.

Hi Glen and all on M.A.C.

I just thought that I'd pop by and give you an update on how things are progressing.

I have now been able to obtain a copy of the death cetificate from the PRO in Victoria, since we had a little more to go on.

Graham actually died on 10th July 1973 and was cremated at Springvale Crematorium on the 12th July '73. He lived at 4, Hudson Street, Caulfield and his occupation is listed as 'theatre usher'.

His daughter Julie Susan ( mothers name Diane Susan ) was born sometime between Dec '71 and Jan '72.

Graham died from the effect of a bullet wound to the chest ( we think suicide, we are currently awaiting a copy of the coroners report)

I would still be eternally grateful for ANY bits of info that anyone could come up with ie.: newspaper clippings, which theatre he worked at, photos of the area he lived, photos of the crem, etc etc. Obviously anything that is known about Diane and Julie as contact was lost. Anything at all would be of interest. I should like to pass on my email address to anyone who would like to contact me privately. Is there is a method of private messaging on this forum? If so I'd be grateful for the instructions.

thanks all

Andy
