Step 7. Then you can login and start enjoying your free MelbChat membership!!

Tip 5. How can membership to such a wonderful website be free? Is this a scam?

This website is mainly run as a hobby of Glen, the Admin. It doesn't cost very much to run this website and Glen enjoys building websites. Call him crazy, but he does this stuff for fun!

Tip 6. Why do you want my email address with my "free" membership? Are you a nasty spammer?

The reason an email address is requested is to stop spammers filling up the MelbourneChat.org website with rubbish material (e.g. porn, links to Viagra salesmen etc). It allows us to ban people from the MelbourneChat.org website if they act inappropriately. This is an important measure to protect the website and keep it family friendly. We are not spammers! Feel free to use a "throw away" email address like a hotmail or a yahoo account when you register. It is good practice to use a second email address for this sort of online registration anyway.

Great advice. To many forums take it for granted that their visitors know this stuff <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Hi, thanks for this info about the forum... I am having trouble posting. I have posted a message in the introductions forum, but it has not come up. Can you please advise, or is this because I need to do 4 posts before they are viewed. I am totally confused. Thanks in advance. <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Hi aluuvian, New member's posts go into a moderation queue and don't become visible to other forum users until they get checked and approved by the moderator.

This is just for the first few poss.

Also please note that new members cannot view the profiles of other members until they have made a few posts in the forum.

Cheers, Glen
