Blues, Roots, Bluegrass Around Melbourne

[color="#800080"]Well today is Cup Day and after a MASSIVE weekend of music... im ready for a relaxing day! Yep, i filled my entire weekend with music. Friday night saw me at a great cafe/resturant in NTH Ringwood, Yarra Blue. I was there to catch Nick Charles and Pete Fidler with their guitars, dobro and a mandolin. Great night! Saturday, i went to a gig i also go to regulary, again it was Nick and Pete at St Andrews pub. A great arvo with great food, great atmosphere and fantastic music! A Must for all! They play there about once a month, a gig guide is available on charlesguitar.com

Sunday evening @ 5pm i walked in2 the now much needed smoke free Lomond Hotel to catch Nick and the bluestrings play a phenomanal gig! This band are well worth a look, consisting of guitars, dobro, fiddle and upright doublebass. That place was jumping!

Id love to hear about the best places to hear this kind of music... i am hearing about a place called Dont Tell Tom...?

I went to a great pub last nite called The Gem on Wellington St Collingwood. I saw The Somervilles there. They were a fantastic bluegrass band and put on a great show in the friendly, wooden floor n walled pub. Looked like they were serving nice food too! Didnt get to eat tho last nite but will next time. I also met a lovely lady there who happened to be a memeber of the melbourne all gal bluegrass/folk/acoustic band, Dev'lish Mary, so they are next on my list to check out live. So anyone reading this that likes bluegrass, some old time and western swing... check them out. The Somervilles are playing @ The Gem again on Sunday 25th Nov @ 7:30pm. I wont be missing it.

Would love to hear from anyone else who is in2 any of this kinda music as i want to get out and about more to some great gigs. [/color] :piwo:
