Help ! From New Zealand

Hey guys !!



I kinda need some advice on a few things.. I am flying to Melbourne from New Zealand on the 4th of Jan 08 and lI am looking for accommodation and jobs while I am there.. then if all goes well I will come back and get my family . Its very hard to find somewhere to stay and a start date for employment while being over here so I have decided to do it all over there after I arrive. I know its a big risk but we want to get ahead in life and I really liked Sydney when I was there in 2002, and I have heard that Melbourne is even better ! We are a young family but I do think that we can do it. I have never been to Melbourne and this is where this site may be some help to me so I thought id give it a crack.. coming from cool NEw Zealand I think I would like to settle somewhere a bit cooler, anybody know of any nice family suberbs in Melbourne then some advice would be great, also where the jobs are ?? good schooling etc?? haha.

hi natalie, what type of work are you interested in doing? there are quite a few job agencies that offer temp work and you could sign up for those prior to your arrival i would think.

Hey Glen.. thanks for you reply, I am intereseted in sales and retail as I have experience, and my partner is looking for driving jobs.. we are maybe looking at living in Tullmarine?? whats that like to bring up a family ?

Have you seen the Australian movie called The Castle? ....i.e. where the family lives near the airport? ....well that is near Tullamarine!!!



It would be OK if you like planes i guess <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I would rather little a bit further away from the runway myself! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />



I would expect that there would be plenty of retail work. and i guess there will be lots of driving jobs too though they often end up driving long hours and it can be a hard slog! though at least the number of hours you drive is supposed to be controlled by the Government. At the moment, we have very low unemployment so it should be a good time to look for work.

Hey Nat here, for some reason it wouldnt let me reply to that... thanks for your reply and YES I know the movie you are talking about, and the council trys to remove their family ??? I think I have the right one lol but I do distinctivly remember the planes haha. So Tullermarine not a good place to be then ?? Do you know of any nice suberbs to bring up a family in ??

Yeah hopefully I can find retail work straight away. If this doesnt work then we are coming back home and I dont want to go back ! I think I will love it there..
