Melbourne's Best Suburbs
#1
Hi,

We're moving to Melbourne in January and would appreciate any information on the suburbs in Bayside Melbourne- we're looking for good, clean suburb not too far from the city (within 30 mins radius) close to the beach, with good primary schools, acitivities/activity centres, and safe to bring up young children . I've found a few off the net which we think might fit the bill. I would appreciate any information on the below

Bentleigh

East Bentleigh

Cheltenham

McKinnon

Mentone

Parkdale

Mordialloc

Aspendale

Chelsea

Thanks in advance

Hi, the suburbs you have listed are all good suburbs to live in and raise a family.

Bentleigh

East Bentleigh

Cheltenham

McKinnon

The above are good locations for bringing up young children and are closer to the city with good transport (train and road) and within 30 minutes in reasonable traffic.

Cheltenham and East Bentliegh are in my opinion are better in terms of having children and schools (primary and high schools) in those areas.

Bentliegh is too built up and I would not really recommend it for families with young children.

The following suburbs bit further from town. Chelsea would take you about an 45-60 minutes in reasonable traffic. A bit more quiter suburbs and are along the beach front.

Mentone

Parkdale

Mordialloc

Aspendale

Chelsea

If I had to choose one suburb I would go with East Bentliegh, though I would not rule out Cheltenham and third on my list would be Mentone (beach end). There are plentiful of (state and private) schools in all the 3 suburbs mentioned.

I hope it all works out for you in Melbourne.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply and the information which will be sure to help me. East Bentleigh and Cheltenham look good to me too and I'm waiting to get into Mel in Jan and visit the suburbs to make a final choice. Hopefully everything goes well with the house house hunt and school admissions.

Thanks once again

I live in Bentleigh with my young family and think it's great - it's not built up at all, expecially if comparing it to East bentleigh !??!?.

Really, it comes down to $$ too. East bentleigh is affordable, Bentleigh you need upwards of half a mill to buy a home with a small backyard these days. Like McKinnon, if you're "In The Zone" ( McKinnon High ), you can expect fierce competition at acution. The average auction price this year is $1.1 mill for a home in Bentleigh - interest in the area is up 27% on 2006.

But, great parklands, low crime, close to the city and the sea, friendly neighbours.

East bentleigh is more hit & miss, but should come good in the next few years as the DINKS and young families are all moving in, renovating, and cleaning up the neighbourhood.

Good luck !

Hi There

All suburbs you mentioned are good, Bentleigh these days is just for the rich...It all depends how much $$ you have and what you would like for that amount.

Look at www.realestate.com.au and enter in those suburbs with your price range and see what comes up, you may find that for your cash you cant get anything decent in those areas..and will have to look at other suburbs....

Best thing is to come down and stay somehwere short term and check out the areas, 100 people may recomend one area but you may not like it...you really need to come down and see for yourself.

Check out that website i mentioned, its fantatsic to get a feel for how much a house costs in certain suburbs...

cheers

Don't assume that "Rich" areas always have nice freindly honest people in them. Most of them are rich because they have been screwed people all their lives and have made money to live there. Richard Pratt lives in a nice area around Toorak and has be involved in a Cartel...
