Good Suburb For Student?
#1
Hi there. I'm looking for a place to rent in SE Melbourne. I'm a university student and have classes in both Clayton and Caulfield campuses. What would be an ideal suburb to live in that is safe, conducive for study, and quite close to the city (preferably less than 1/2 hour by car)? Most importantly, a place where I can get to the 2 suburbs (Clayton n Caulfield) quite easily as some days I have classes in both campuses.

I hope you can point me to some of the good places. Thanks.

Hi there,

Do you plan on getting a car??? that would be the easiest option i guess. and then you have more choice as to where to live.

Though from memory it was very difficult to get a car park at the caulfield campus. perhaps that has changed now as i have not been there for a long time.

If you are relying on public transport, it will take around half an hour between the campuses which is not too bad i guess. see the links for more info on public transport trip planning:

The suburb of Caulfield is close to the city but fairly expensive. If you live near the clayton campus it will be cheaper I think. Many students live in the suburb of Clayton or Notting Hill. If you pick the right street you will be abe to walk to the clayton campus. I guess Notting Hill is slightly more upmarket than Clayton but both should be fine for quiet study.

Cheers, Glen
