Hamlet Melbourne Shows 2008
#1
Hamlet - presented by Bell Shakespeare

16 Jul 2008 - 2 Aug 2008

The Playhouse, The Arts Centre

100 St Kilda Road

MELBOURNE VIC 3004

A reflection of our own age, Hamlet is timeless, inexhaustible, limitless – a compass pointing the way to the soul of our own discontent.

After the death of his father, Hamlet is besieged by suspicion, apparition and wild imaginings. Is he mad, or the one solid rock in a wild storm of treachery and insanity?

Be drawn into the psychological labyrinth of Hamlet, as Marion Potts delivers a contemporary, poignant interpretation of arguably Shakespeare’s finest tragedy. Brendan Cowell brings his brilliant intensity to the lead role in this thrilling collaboration.

A tangled web of obsession, family secrets and betrayal, Hamlet is the map for a searing examination of life’s true core.

By William Shakespeare

Directed by Marion Potts

With Brendan Cowell

Hi Glen,

I am a year eleven student attending Kimberley College in Brisbane, QLD, and for a drama camp, we travelled to Melbourne and were priviledged enough to view Bell Shakespeares version of Hamlet. I was browsing the net to find the director of the play, which was thankfully posted on your blog here, but I also read the whole blog simply for personal interest. I found a line that I would love to include in my essay on Hamlet which is as follows: Potts delivers a contemporary, poignant interpretation of arguably, Shakespeare’s finest tragedy. I would of course reference this, but I wondered A) if you wouldn't mind, and <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> what your last name is, so that I could provide a full reference for this.

I look forward to your reply. Thank you, Kara.

Hi Kara, that was actually a quote from the ticket master website! <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> But I am sure they plagiarised it from someone else so they are probably not the real source either. Maybe try googling the phrase and you can find the real source <img src='http://www.melbournechat.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> all the best, glen
